The Amazing Race 8 Winners Leaked?by Jenn Brasler -- 09/26/2005
View Printable version of this article At the beginning of the seventh season of The Amazing Race, rumors circulated that Uchenna and Joyce would walk away with first place. These rumors started when Sportsbook.com, the world’s largest sportsbook and casino, noticed irregular bets and stopped taking wagers on Joyce and Uchenna. They worried that the winners’ identities had been leaked and that insiders were taking advantage of the information. Just days ago, Sportsbook.com halted betting on a family from this season after noticing similar betting trends. All of the suspicious bets were for the maximum amount allowed and came from people in the state the family hails from. Is it possible that, once again, the winners’ names have been leaked? Remember, nothing has been confirmed, and likely won’t be until the season finale airs. If you don’t want to know which family is predicted to win, stop reading right now! And don’t say I didn’t warn you. If you do want to know, here it is: the Linz family of Cincinnati. Alex Czajkowski, the marketing director of Sportsbook.com, is saying that the site stopped taking bets on the show in order to be fair. One of the site’s biggest draws is fans of reality television, and there is always a risk of people using leaked information to make money. Sportsbook.com will honor all bets that were already placed for this season of The Amazing Race and will keep accepting them for other shows, such as The Apprentice, The Apprentice: Martha Stewart, and Survivor. The Amazing Race isn’t the first reality show to run into problems with betting scandals. In 2003, BoDog Sportsbook and Casino stopped taking bets on Survivor: The Amazon after learning that CBS employees were placing bets on the final two contestants. Later that year, Sandra, the winner of Survivor: Pearl Islands, was found out after over a dozen people near her hometown placed bets on her on BETSwwts. In 2004, the same site halted betting on the winner of the second season of The Apprentice after noticing how many maximum bets were placed on the two finalists, Kelly and Jennifer. In that case, the bets came from New Hampshire, though neither contestant was from there. Based on the way things have turned out in the past, it’s entirely possible that the Linzes did win the race. Of course, we’re not giving any weight to the rumors; we’re taking everything with a grain of salt. But wouldn’t it be nice if they did win? Remember, I predicted them to win in my preview article. I guess we all have to wait and see what happens, starting this Tuesday at 9 p.m. EST on CBS. Jenn Brasler is an Assistant Editor of Reality News Online and an aspiring writer from Falls Church, VA.
