The Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Gauntlet 2, Episode 10 - Whole Lotta Issuesby Chris Jakobi -- 02/08/2006
View Printable version of this article Previously on The Gauntlet 2: Kina continued to accuse Cara and Susie of an alliance. The Veterans continued to lose missions. Montana and Beth’s feud continued to fester. Beth continued to surprise the world by beating Montana in the Gauntlet. We start out with Jodi and Alton bonding. Alton thinks the game is crazy, and Jodi gets nervous every time he has to get inside the Gauntlet. Jodi tells us the normal spiel that she likes him, he’s a great guy, blah blah blah. It’s still The Real World. We know were this is going. They’ll be macking on each other in about twenty-six minutes. Alton says he has an emotional attachment to his team. He adds that he is attracted to Jodi but he just got out of a relationship with Irulan, so he’s still healing. Beth and Syrus talk. She tells us that Syrus is the only friend she has here. Robin reads their clue. Mission already? That’s quick. Derrick says that the Vets have lost three missions in a row and since it’s a guy’s Gauntlet, his ass is on the line. They get to the mission, and it’s a big elevated cross-shaped (or X-shaped, if you’re looking at it differently) contraption that is attached to a bunch of bungee cords. T.J. explains that the mission, “Buck-a-Neer,” will have every member of one team sitting on the contraption, while the other team tries to knock them off using the bungee cords in a half hour. The sitting team cannot use their hands to hold them down or use the person in front or in back. If the teams tie they will go to a sudden death. The Rookies are chosen to sit first. Susie says that the Rookies are expecting a wild ride but the Vets are having trouble with the pulleys so it’s more of a mild ride. Timmy describes his team as a bunch of drunk ferrets. David says his team has no strategy. Aneesa says that the Rookies are just riding with them. To make matters worse Robin and Katie get in a tiff about whether the Rookies can hear them. There are five minutes left on the clock and they just stop because they realize if they figure it out the Rookies will steal the strategy and get more people down. Susie explains that the Rookies are up next and they only need to knock off one person. Shot of Syrus struggling to get on the contraption. Uh oh. The Rookies start and they seem to be doing better. They have more momentum and rhythm. Jodi figures out a new plan and it works well enough to knock Syrus off. The Rookies win! Beth is devastated that it’s Syrus who fell off. Alton gets their obtusely large check. The Rookies are up $60,000-$30,000. At the Gauntlet deliberation, Derrick is pissed they lost four in a row. Beth is telling us she doesn’t want Syrus to go to the Gauntlet. We got it Beth. Derrick doesn’t want to send anyone into the Gauntlet. Julie tells us she can’t live with herself if she votes for Syrus. Aneesa says she loves Syrus to death but she wants him to step up and say that he fell off and he lost it for the team. The team comes to a decision to send Syrus into the Gauntlet. T.J. spins the wheel and it lands on “Captain’s Choice.” Derrick picks “Beach Brawl.” David doesn’t think Derrick has much of a chance of winning. Derrick tells Alton and Jodi his choice and they’re shocked. Alton declares Syrus a “big boy” and “no joke.” At the Gauntlet Syrus says that he’s relax and confident. T.J. explains “Beach Brawl.” First to three wins. Susie thinks this might be Derrick’s swan song. Round one lasts about a second and Derrick wins. Syrus starts cursing at T.J. Round two takes a little longer and it’s a good fight but Syrus is out and Derrick is up 2-0. Beth cheers Syrus on. Round three, Syrus pushes Derrick on his back. Derrick leads 2-1. Round four, Derrick picks Syrus up and gets him out. Derrick wins the Gauntlet. Derrick isn’t very happy about it because Syrus is more man power and another brain. Beth cries to Julie and says that if anyone deserved to stay it was him. At the bar. Jodi and Alton dance. Jodi tells him she knows where he’s at. Alton says love is a weird thing, and it’s not like being drunk and being sober. Wow. That was insightful. Next there is a shot of Jodi and Alton making out. See, I told you. Next week: Kina says Susie and Cara are isolating themselves. Don’t get me started. Cara says Kina is a horrible team captain. Beth doesn’t want to go to the Gauntlet.
