Big Brother 5, August 21 Live Feeds: He Who Controls the Veto...by Jeffrey Clinard -- 08/22/2004
View Printable version of this article Good Morning, Houseguests. Well, maybe not. Diane is hung over, and her, Karen, Drew and Michael don't want to get out of bed until Big Brother gets testy with them. Diane, Drew, Marvin, and Nakomis talk about the veto, and think the twins will be competitive. Marvin would rank them at Jase level. Michael, while shaving, ponders letting his beard grow for several weeks, and what it would look like afterwards. Marvin tells him he'd look like Chewbacca. Michael claims he could have gotten a sports scholarship, but he didn't play any in his senior year of high school; he did student council, SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) and American Indian Club. He says his grandfather is a full blooded Cherokee. Natalie starts talking about how she'd take cash to make an exit, starting with $5000 and dropping the price to $20. She thinks the biggest jerk makes it to the end. Adria and her decide their best bets right now are to stick with Drew and Michael. Time for a competition. It is some kind of contest fishing out balls with letters on them from a web of sticks, and spelling out a word. The houseguest with the best individual time will win a $1000 shopping spree. The houseguests draw numbers to determine the order. The word turns out to be INTERNET. They apparently also get 14 items for the house. The houseguests toss around the balls, then go inside to find computers! Apparently they get to pick from some things they had asked for, such as lobster, BBQ sauce, and yoga mats. Diane had the best individual time. Afterwards, there is some general chit chat around the house, and Karen talks to Nakomis about religion. Nakomis is pagan, but was raised Methodist. Karen talks about the nuns in Catholic school. Karen and Drew talk about not understanding the twins except for their bible reading. Most of the houseguests take naps in the afternoon, though Diane showers and talks to Marvin about the house. Diane claims the house may suck, but it's better than working 40-50 hours a week. Marvin claims he works 60 hours a week, and both agree that it's nice to be able to do nothing all day and get paid for it. Marvin would also like to see Diane get drunk again. Adria and Natalie talk strategy throughout most of the afternoon, though it's not very interesting and there are no definite targets or plans made. Time for the veto competition. The feeds go to the fish tank, but when it's all over, we learn that Adria has, for the second week in a row, won the golden power of veto. The contest apparently involved faces that morphed into other faces, and the houseguests generally agree that it was difficult. Michael and Marvin had some problems with it. Midnight passes, and the houseguests go for the real food (food works on a midnight to midnight basis - the reason for yesterday's last call for alcohol at midnight). Michael makes a hamburger; Karen makes a wrap (and tells Natalie she loves wraps). Nakomis and Diane retreat to the HOH room, and mull over their options. Nakomis is going to talk to Michael; Diane to Drew (then Nakomis to Drew). They trash talk the twins, particularly Natalie. They also go over the numbers in a vote situation and try to decide if they have enough to evict a twin. They worry that Adria will use the veto on herself or her sister (gee, do you really think so?). Nakomis doesn't want to put up Michael or Marvin, and says she won't put up Diane or Karen. In any case, Diane goes off to chat with Drew. Diane wants to know where he stands, and he says he's scared of both sides. She recounts her problems with the twins, and says if he sides with them, she can't protect him anymore. She says Nakomis wants to talk with him, and goes on to tell him that if he's put up, he won't be leaving the house. Can I say "Famous Last Words?" Adria comes in, and Diane asks about her veto decision. Adria says it isn't hard to know what to do. She tells Drew that she'd hate to see him evicted if she uses veto power. Drew says she has to watch out for herself. Diane tells Adria she admires and respects her, but things have changed - it's nothing personal. She ends up talking about scriptures, the Lord, and then starts getting teary and they all hug. In the HOH room, Nakomis talks to her brother. She asks if the veto is used, who would he want to see on the block and who would he vote out. Michael says he likes both of the twins, and it would be a hard choice. He finally says Marvin would take being nominated well, but Nakomis doesn't want to put him up for the fourth week in a row. He says he'll respect her decision no matter who she puts up. Nakomis relates to him why she put up the twins, and he listens, and ends up telling her that it's a tough decision. He goes off and finds the twins, who are having a cry-fest. Adria has been telling Natalie about the conversation she had with Diane, and she's upset about it. Michael tells them about his conversation with Nakomis, and how she will probably put up Marvin or Drew. Nakomis calls Drew into the HOH and talks with him. He outright tells her that he's heard he might be put up if Adria uses the veto. Nakomis claims she wasn't, but she wouldn't mind if he offered to be put up. Nakomis says she's thought about putting up Karen since she's "safe." Drew finally admits he doesn't want to be put up, but if that's what she's going to do, he's fine with it. Nakomis continues to talk about how the game is getting harder, and there aren't many people left she's annoyed with, which makes nominating people more difficult. Drew eventually leaves, and Karen and Diane join Nakomis. It's another rehash of what she's gone over with Michael and Drew. She worries that Marvin might vote out the decoy, though Diane thinks he has a problem with the twins and will get rid of one of them. Diane eventually leaves, and Karen and Nakomis talk strategy. They wonder who Marvin might put up, and decide to tell him tomorrow he won't be going up. The plan is now to put up Michael, since he would vote to keep a twin. Nakomis plans to tell him so he'd go running to the twins and beg them not to use the veto. She talks about she'll have two people mad at her no matter who goes (Michael and the twins). They plan to monitor Drew and Michael all week to see how they react. At 4:00 am, it's finally good night houseguests. Jeffrey Clinard lives in Las Vegas, Nevada with his cats, Lam and Princess.
