Canadian Idol 2, September 1: Does It Get Any Better Than This?by Paris Cosby -- 09/02/2004
View Printable version of this article Ben starts the show out tonight looking absolutely amazing in a gorgeous white suit. Mmmm, mmm, yummy! I'm really liking this look. We quickly meet the Canadian Idol Orchestra directed by Orin Isaacs. We're in for a treat tonight, folks - I can just tell. We quickly meet our equally dapper judges. Zack's question is first and Ben wants to know whether tonight will be a challenge for the competitors. Zack thinks the music should speak for itself and he really just wants to show off his suit. It's a very shiny black. Ben asks Sass if the Idols should try to match their voice to the sound. She doesn't think so. She thinks they should keep doing what they're doing. Farley, looking really cool in a black pin-striped suit and snazzy hat is up next. Ben asks if Farley thinks it's skill or endurance that has kept these four Idols here this long. And, being - as we like to say, cool Mr. Farley Flex - he answers, "They'll endure based on skill." Finally, Jake thinks that tonight it will be interesting to see their (the Idols) take on the theme. So, we'll get right to it with Theresa singing "It's Only a Paper Moon." All I can say is, "Wow!" The jazz comes out in her and this is an absolutely amazing performance. She looks absolutely fabulous as well. I think this is the best she's done - by far! Jake says, "We all believe in you." Farley tells her that she is the one that is the least out of her element. "Way to go." Sass thinks that Theresa is "custom made to sing that." And, Zack says, "Cool! I totally dug it." Kalan Porter is next singing "Moon River." Things are moving really quickly tonight. Kalan comes out dressed in a little suit. He's just such a man-child. I love this kid. I'll tell you, I literally am getting shivers from this performance. I really don't have much else to say. It is nothing short of phenomenal. Farley says, "Awesome!" Sass tells Kalan, "What a treat it was to hear that. You are impossibly dreamy tonight." Zack, with possibly the largest compliment that has ever come out of his mouth, says, "Anybody who watches you do what you do and doesn't see what a star you are is too jaded to deserve to watch you do what you do." Jake thinks we're just starting to see what Kalan can do. Next up is Jason Greeley and he's going to try his hand with "I Won't Dance." He's surprisingly good! I shouldn't say that like that I suppose but I think just about everyone expected Jason to suck tonight because he seems to stick so closely to his rock and roll roots. He's snapping his fingers though and he's got loads of stage presence. I can hear Sass howling! She says, "That was, that was, that was amazing!" Zack mutters, "Good work, bro." Jake thinks we've just found out which type of singer Jason should be. And Farley tips his hat to Jason saying, "You really captured that." Our fourth competitor is none other than Jacob Hoggard. He's singing "Straighten Up and Fly." He does a good job of it although I find it a tad too theatrical for my tastes. But, I do love it when he says, "Take it away, boys" (to the band) and does a little shimmy across the stage. Zack says, "You're a star, bro." Jake says that Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra were movie stars and one day Jacob Hoggard will be a movie star. Farley thinks that Jacob is "an entertainer extraordinaire." Sass tells him, "You are a movie star that can also sing - just a star." With that the first four songs are finished and Ben quickly pounces into the second set with Jacob still at his side. He's keeping his eye on Jacob and eventually shoves him away which is pretty funny. He then introduces Theresa once again. This time she'll be singing "Dream A Little Dream." I notice that she changed her dress. She's very pretty in pink. I have to tell you, too, this is just so good - she is so good. I really have nothing to say. She has a hair out of place? I mean I feel lucky to be able to sit here and watch her. It's an awesome performance. 1 2 Next-->View Printable version of this article |
