Road Rules X-treme, Episode 15: Just Shoot Me

by Kara Wild -- 09/17/2004
A lot of the Roadies have been wanting to hit Angela over the head with a board. This week, someone actually gets to do it - and faces no repercussions! How does this work? Find out inside!

Last week: Road Rules 13 totally thrashed Road Rules 12. Moving on...

This week, Angela is back to crying to her boyfriend on the phone at night and can't wait to come home. "I'm the weakest link in all of the challenges!" she wails. No she doesn't, but she should have. Jodi still thinks Angela is whining because she's not getting all the attention anymore. Isn't that sentiment a little old? I wonder if Bunim-Murray are re-using footage from an earlier episode in order to establish what is sure to be either an Angela Proves Herself or an Angela's Redemption episode.

When the Roadies are all gathered together, Derrick says he doesn't think he's ever heard anyone complain more than Angela, and that he feels like she doesn't care about anyone but herself. Angela gets defensive -- she's not allowed to care about her boyfriend? Derrick shoots back that he just wants to feel like she values them as much as they do her.

Soon after, the Roadies get their clue, and Angela snits in voice-over that the missions aren't for her. "I'm not an athletic person and I hate gross things."

Nonetheless, the next day she and the other Roadies head to a large warehouse area that looks like a shooting gallery. But no -- it's Stunt School. The guns are filled with blanks. Once the Roadies have completed their appropriate stunt training, they will put their skills to the test in a pretend movie scene. A stunt expert will then judge them and let them know if they acted well enough. Be careful, he cautions, because you can get hurt. If you fall to the ground and flatten into a pancake, you will not be able to peal yourself off and shake back into a normal shape!

Jodi and Nick are first up, and they have a choice between an "air ramp" and "blow back." An air ramp is like a small catapult; the person runs up it and is propelled into the air, only to wind up on a mat a short distance away. Jodi tries this, then tries getting blown back, which involves getting pulled backward by a rope that is hooked to her waist, to simulate getting blown back in an explosion. The Roadies worry about her bad acting, and based on which stunt Jodi did better, the stunt expert assigns her to the air ramp. Nick will do the blow back.

Now Jillian and Patrick have to choose between the "high fall" (just what it sounds like) and the wirework. With wirework, the person gets pulled in the air by a wire, up to the ceiling, in order to do some fancy "Matrix" type moves. Jillian does it, and describes the experience as being like Catwoman on the wall. It's a no-brainer what she's going to want -- Patrick does the high fall.

Now it's Angela and Derrick. They have the choice between one clubbing the other to the ground, or shooting the other. "Can't I do both?" Derrick asks. No, he doesn't say that, but you know he was thinking it. A shooting demonstration proves that the blanks aren't kiddie clay bullets -- someone could get hurt. Both Derrick and Angela take turns shooting the gun and being the victim, which involves wearing a white shirt with some red liquid underneath that splatters when the blanks hit it. Derrick is the "fall guy" first, and manages to collapse to the ground pretty convincingly. All those nights of drinking to unconsciousness have paid off, eh? Angela then takes her turn, and calls this her favorite mission because it relates to a career in which she's interested. It's always about you, isn't it Angela? Derrick then practices clubbing her with a board, which shatters as Angela drops to the ground dramatically. "It's kind of nice hitting Angela," says Derrick. "I probably won't ever be able to do that again." They now practice clubbing each other so that they fall through glass, which shatters around them. Since Derrick does the clubbing more convincingly (I won't bother to speculate why), he is awarded the club, Angela the gun.
