Road Rules X-treme, Episode 16: What A Girl Wants

At the opening of this episode, Jillian and Patrick are like two peas in a pod. They even brush each other's teeth... eww! Patrick, however, doesn't equate their relationship with, well, a relationship. He feels that while they have good sex, that is the extent of their intimacy, and he can't promise anything more right now.

Derrick tells Jillian that it's because Patrick has a "girl back home he loves so dearly" - well he's sure got a great way of showing it, screwing or flirting with everything that moves. Jillian says unconvincingly that she understands the situation. Derrick feels that Jillian is falling in love with Patrick, and, as if we couldn't have guessed that on our own, Jillian herself then announces that there could be a long-term relationship between them.

That night, the Roadies receive their clue, which instructs them to dress warmly, because they will be going to a ski lodge. The Roadies are confused, thinking there will be no snow at this time of year.

No, but there will be every other type of weather - fog, rain, ice, you name it. Standing with the others near the top of a mountain, Jodi states that she is freezing her ass off.

The mission consists of two gondolas suspended in mid-air. Four Roadies in one gondola will need to rescue two in the other. They must bring the rescue supplies, and then strap one of the victims to a stretcher (See? I knew that stretcher scene from the promo would be part of the mission) and lower him/her to the ground several feet below. The resident Argentine expert shows them how to pull themselves up and down ropes, and then he chooses Macho Man Patrick to play the injured victim! Nick gets a good laugh out of this, while Angela thinks that she would make a better victim. No... too easy. If they win, along with the X-treme key, they will get a $500 gift certificate. The Roadies whoop and holler, but probably feel that the prize is a bit anti-climactic after the $2000 each they won from tangling with Road Rules 12.

The gondolas make their long ascent up the cables, surrounded by mist and slicked with rain. Angela giggles nervously as they climb higher and higher, and, while normally I would make a dig at her, I'm terrified of heights, so...

Derrick is the first of the "rescue team" (which also includes Angela, Nick, and Jillian) to scale the ropes to the other gondola. As he does so, he hangs upside down, the medical box dangling below him. Derrick voice-overs that his hands are numb, they can't grasp anymore than they already are, and he is close to letting go. He finally makes it to the other gondola, collapsing on the roof while nearly getting his boot caught in the ropes. Given that Derrick is one of the strongest competitors, his shaky performance doesn't give the other "rescuers" much confidence. Derrick instructs them to scale the ropes quickly -- the faster they do it, the easier it will be.

Uh-oh, it's Angela's turn. If she doesn't suck up her usual angst, they might wind up needing a rescue team for the rescue team. Angela inches along, complaining that her hands are numb, but still makes it across. "My whole body is like Jell-O right now," she breathes.

Nick goes next as the others cheer him on. Does. He. Make. It? Yes, as does Jillian. No one just hangs there, crying for help, as the MMs below scramble to find a net. Yawn.
