An "Insider" Look at Survivor: Vanuatu, Episode 2: It's a Cold, Cold Worldby Mike DeGeorge -- 09/30/2004
View Printable version of this article The big question this week seems to be, "Did Eliza make the right decision?" Yes and no. She should have gone to her own alliance first. She may have done that, but I don't remember seeing it and you would think her alliance-mates wouldn't have been so shocked. She had no way to know Dolly's true alliance, so it was either do something or risk going home. At least she's safe, and that's what she had to do. Either way, Eliza is in the worst position on her tribe - she is out of the youth alliance and is the outsider in the elders. This does not bode well for her future. On to the Insider videos. They're in somewhat strange order this week, but I'll present them as CBS.com does, so away we go. Voting Booth: Julie votes for Leann - "I originally wanted Twila but Dolly's running the show, so I suggested Leann and Dolly said that was OK, so Leann it is." Who let Dolly run the show? Mia votes for Leann - "I hopes I'm spelling the name right. Leann seems like a good girl, but I have to do it so the five 'younguns' can stick together and get through this. Sorry." Leann votes for Dolly - "I'm voting for you because when I found out I was the one going, I had to do whatever I had to in order to make sure that didn't happen. They can't trust her." Eliza votes for Dolly - "I couldn't risk you voting for her. You were on the fence, she couldn't commit. We were in a solid alliance and Dolly couldn't commit to not voting for me. So I had to turn some people around and vote her out, and I hope this doesn't shoot me in the foot." I think it will, but she was in a bad position. Dolly votes for Leann - "Eeny meeny miney moe, Leann's got to go." Methinks the women chose well this night. Ami votes for Dolly - "I never would have voted for you, but going back and forth and not making up your mind made it this way. Sorry." Twila votes for Dolly - "Sorry, I would have stuck with you like glue, I thought we had a good thing going but you couldn't look me in the eye. I can't trust someone who can't look me in the eye. Sorry, kid, love you." Lisa votes for Leann - "I don't want to vote you off, but we're in an alliance and that's the way we've decided." That's what you think. Scout votes for Dolly - "I love you to death, and I trust people who can make a firm commitment. Even a shepherd can choose a path and stick with it. Good luck with your farm." That was a pretty nice dig, actually. Immunity Challenge: Replay of the Immunity Challenge won by the men. I've got to give credit to Lea, he gave this one his all, and would give him the MVP for the win. Reward Challenge: Replay of the Reward Challenge. Honestly, did anyone think the men would win this? I think maybe someone just got tired of hearing the women complain about being cold. We're only seeing a little bit of it here, and I'm sick of it. And I have to agree with Rory; the little shimmy-shuffle by Ami made me physically ill. Dolly the Day After: The experience was short but excellent. It was a little confusing because she wasn't able to remove her back home farm girl personality and transition that into being able to make a decision. She found herself caught in the middle. At first she thought it was a good spot, but she needed to make up her mind, but she couldn't do it quick enough and it backfired. The whole dirty, hungry suffering part of it was the least favorite, she didn't realize how hungry and cold and uncomfortable it would be. The total experience was neat, getting to know strange women, getting together to meet basic needs. It was all fun and games and everybody liked each other up until the first Tribal Council, then it got rough. Building shelter, coming together with ideas, and learning likes and dislikes - that was fun. She thought she developed more friendships than she actually was, apparently. She wasn't concentrating on one friendship, she wanted to get to know everyone. In the game she focused on getting an all-around knowledge of everyone first and in the first six days she didn't have time to get into details. She just got an all-around view and didn't bond with anyone 1 2 3 4 Next-->View Printable version of this article |
