Real World Philadelphia, Episode 18: The Lowest of Lows, the Highest of Highsby Sting7 -- 01/13/2004
View Printable version of this article Last Week: Scary house party. Moral of the story, keep the booze away from all of them! The gang learn that they have to pitch their playground idea to the Philadelphia Soul. This makes everyone anxious. Melanie says she has a rash. Finally she goes to the doctor (husband of the HR director of the Soul, conveniently enough). And she learns she has... Scabies! Landon and MJ immediately recoil. Melanie whines that she hates them all as they proceed to tease her. On her way to bed, she runs into Karamo, who physically jumps away from her. That's nice. MJ educates us (sort of) that scabies are essentially body lice. That's comforting. At work, Mel calls Dr. Chuck who says he is pleased with her lack of itching, but he plans to come to the house to tell everyone how to deal. Mel says this horrifies her. Meanwhile, Landon and Sarah butt heads over the presentation. Landon is wanting to run the show, and Sarah does not want to be run. At the house, scabies fever is running wild. The gang work out their anxiety by joking. That's healthy. Karamo tells us they have to wash all the bedding, and spray the hell out of everything that doesn't move. Willie is particularly skeevy about the whole thing. Dr. Chuck shows up and checks everyone out. No new scabies. Whew! Landon is reading instructions to Karamo about the medication and shampoo they have to use. Problem: Mel can't stop herself from injecting her own interpretation of what Landon is reading. That's annoying. And he is annoyed. He finally gives up and hands the paper to Karamo. Later, at dinner, Landon does a dramatic reading of that scene with Melanie. Shavonda adds that Melanie has never uttered a sentence that didn't begin in the middle of hers! That's funny! Shavonda wonders aloud, "how do you sit someone down and tell them that their personality is annoying?" At work, the gang is putting the final touches on their presentation. MJ runs into Mimi (big cheese) in the hall and proclaims them ready. Landon winces. Landon wants the presentation to blow the socks clean off everyone in the room. He tells MJ that he, at least, doesn't feel ready. He always expects them to fail. Time for the presentation. Everyone actually wakes up on time. As the big-wigs from Northern Home and the Philadelphia Soul gather, Mimi announces there is one more special guest. Jon Bon Jovi. Jaws drop hard enough to hear bones pop. Jon shakes hands with everyone. The gang still themselves enough to give a strong and thorough presentation. Visual aids, Power Points, all the trimmings! When they are done, Jon says his only hope was that the roomies would make him proud. They far exceeded that, he said. As the gang sigh a collective sigh of relief and blush, Jon says he is so impressed he has a special gift for them at home, around 2:00. Hmmm… As the big-wigs go off to do whatever big-wigs do, Laura (Soul boss) tells the roomies she's fit to explode, she's so proud of them. They return the love. At home, it's 2:00 and there is the doorbell! As they all dash to the door... they can't open it. The door is broken!! Amid Mel and Willie's whines and Shavonda's dog-killing shrieks, Landon manages to get the door open. They are handed suitcases with their names on them, full of brochures and stuff. It seems to take a while to find out where they are going amid all the STUFF, but Willie shrieks, "It's Fiji!!!!" The gang is literally jumping up and down with excitement. They don't have scabies in Fiji, do they? Sting7 has been a respected published writer for 16 years, as a music editor, entertainment critic, columnist, and interviewer.
