Growing Up Gotti, Season 2 Episode 5: Guess Who's Staying the Weekendby Joan Perry -- 02/03/2005
View Printable version of this article It's Monday night - Are you ready for some football??? Yeah, me too, but unfortunately it's another six days until the Super Bowl, so let's watch some Growing Up Gotti. As we begin, Victoria tells us that she loves having houseguests. Her friend - and newly appointed assistant - Robert has been staying with her for "ages" (this translates to four episodes) and the boys' friends use the house as a hotel. But this weekend a rapper who calls himself Gotti is staying with them. He wants to see what it's like to be a "real Gotti." Jeff - who is not known for his dependability - is on his way to the airport to pick up the esteemed guest. He's on the phone with Victoria, who tells him that he's looking for the guy with Gotti tattooed on his neck. Hmmm… anyway, Victoria asks Jeff what time Gotti's plane lands and he tells her 12:15. Oops! "It's 12:51." Victoria is pretty incredulous when Jeff explains that he "took a little luncheon." Wow, this guy's on another planet. Victoria tells us that she isn't sure if it would be better for Jeff to find Gotti or for Gotti to hitchhike to her house. Well, no matter because, after wandering around the airport asking various people if they are Gotti, Jeff has found him. Meanwhile, Victoria explains to Robert that when she and the boys were at the MTV awards in Miami, the boys wanted to meet the rappers backstage and they ended up meeting Gotti. The rapper was "over the moon" with excitement at meeting them and he has stayed in touch with the boys. In the van, Gotti asks Jeff if he has "player potential." Jeff assures him that he does. I respectfully disagree. Anyway, Gotti asks Jeff if he wants him to hook Jeff up with Victoria. Hah! Jeff says, "That's OK," and sounds frightened, but Gotti seems excited at the prospect. When they arrive at the house, Gotti greets Victoria with a "How you, baby?" and says she looks 22 years old. And he brought her chocolates! Mmmm... she asks how long he waited at the airport and it was 45 minutes. Jeff says it's OK, he probably met a lot of women because there were a lot of women around. Um, OK. Gotti brings up the conversation they had in the van about Victoria, without actually saying what the conversation was about. Very mature. So, basically Victoria demands that Jeff tell her what they were talking about. Jeff tells her, "Gotti suggested that I go out with you on a date." Victoria quickly answers, "In your dreams, Jeff." Enough of that - the boys are home from school. John and Frankie look very nice dressed up in their ties. And Carmine is wearing a warm-up suit or something. Time to get to know Gotti. Victoria says that being Italian-American, she thinks the best way to get to know someone is over a meal. She wants to find out more about Gotti and what he wants from her family. He's 26 and has called himself Gotti since he was 13 or 14. They're eating pasta and Gotti doesn't use forks because he likes to eat with his hands. Victoria looks skeptical. She's obviously not impressed with his table skills. Gotti asks the boys if they remember their grandpa. John tells him about the memories he has of Christmas and going to visit Frankie in the hospital when he was born. That's sweet. Anyway, Gotti tells them that if he was the grandson of John Gotti, he'd be cocky and have an attitude. John says that they try not to be, they were raised differently - they were taught to use forks. Ha! Now Gotti is telling the boys that he'd like them to come into the studio with him and be guests on his rap. They seem excited. But they're still eating dinner and Gotti is walking around, which might be a step above eating pasta with your hands. Anyway, John tells Victoria that they should bring the etiquette coach back for Gotti. Ha! John is pretty funny today. Gotti tells Victoria that the food is so good, he'd kick his own grandmother in the back to get it. Ooookay. Victoria looks... confused. Me too! Gotti refers to the boys as his cousins. Victoria says that they treat him like a brother and you know what that means. I'm not positive but I'm guessing it means there will be some fighting. Sure enough, they're out playing basketball and Gotti is being pretty cocky about his skills. He's ticking off John, and taking shots from his knees. Not cool. I don't understand the rules well, but there's something about a false take-out, which is apparently illegal. Gotti stalks off. Uh oh. But apparently everyone has cooled down because later that night, Gotti is bugging John to get going because they have to get to the studio. He's calling him Pretty Boy. Robert tells Gotti that with these boys, 8:00 means 9:30. Gotti goes upstairs to wait with Carmine and another friend, Bobby (I think). 1 2 Next-->View Printable version of this article |
