The Road to Stardom with Missy Elliott, Episode 6: Heated

by Chris Jakobi -- 02/04/2005
The performers travel to Las Vegas where they must critique each other. They then go to a freestyling "boxing match" where the prize is an exemption. For some it gets more than personal. Who turns out to be the surprise winner? Is it Nilyne (right)?

Last time on The Road to Stardom with Missy Elliott: Marcus received devastating news that his stepbrother was killed in a car accident. Each performer gave a eulogy at a New Orleans cemetery. Jermaine Dupri made a guest appearance and the performers were to perform with many distractions, and Melissa was sent home over Marcus.

We start out back in New Orleans where Nilyne states (yet again) that they all stink because they all live together on a bus. Nic tells us that this is as real as it gets. Steve goes on the bus and tells them to pack their bags because they're leaving the bus and flying to Sin City.

In Las Vegas, Missy tells us that she is rewarding the performers. The performers are all get to stay at the Real World Suite at the Palms hotel. As they take a tour, I reminisce about moments of reality TV past. That's where Brynn threw a fork at Steven! That's where Arissa yelled at her mom on the phone! That's where three of the roommates had a threesome on the second day! That's where Alton and Irulan beat each other up… now I'm getting ahead of myself. Jessica and Matt look at the CD collection where Jessica points out that they have N'Sync for him.

Missy tells us that she wants to see if they can all take criticism. Mona gets them together and she starts with criticism on Matt. Eddie says to not "play white boy who can sing or dance." Matt doesn't like the Justin Timberlake criticisms but he understands them. He also tells us that when Justin's album came out he said that that was exactly what he would do. He loves the Neptunes and Timbaland (Missy's producer) is his favorite producer.

Marcus is next and Nilyne tells him that he has to watch what he eats. Marcus says that he doesn't eat a lot, but Nilyne says it's not how much he eats but what he eats. Marcus says that he's not surprised by her comments because he hears it all the time. Deltrice is next. Nic says that she has an attitude and Eddie tells he that she sometimes says she has a bad attitude, but she cries and is emotional. Deltrice says that she has an attitude but that she doesn't necessarily think she has a bad attitude.

Eddie tells Akil that he needs to be more aggressive. Matt tells Eddie he needs to be more polite. Jessica tells Nilyne she has to be more confident.

Jessica is next and Nic tells her that she always talks about where she's from, but he wants to hear it in her music. Nic is last and Jessica tells Nic that it's not a modeling competition. When you sing don't just talk about girls. Nic gets pissed at her and she gets pissed right back saying, "I'm going to be one of the last ones," but that she isn't going to brag and have everyone hate her guts.

Matt tells us that the constructive criticisms did turn a little personal. In Arissa and Irulan's old room (and I'm such a loser for knowing that) Nilyne tells Nic that she doesn't really want to start a relationship. If I didn't already like Nilyne, I'd start liking her now. She tells us that she can tell how Nic is and that she doesn't want to get played.

The performers go to a boxing ring. Missy tells us that they have to realize that their friends are also their competition. The winner of this challenge is exempt from being picked in the Spotlights of Elimination. Mona says that this is their performance challenge and that is a freestyling competition. The object is to outdo each other. She asks to bring in their judges. The judges come out, and they're the previously eliminated contestants: Heather, Cori, Yelawolf, Frank B. and Melissa.

Eddie says that in this atmosphere, people will be getting defensive. Teena, Dallas, Mona, Missy and her dancers will still be watching. Nilyne was randomly selected first and she has to choose her competitor. She chooses Nic.

Nilyne vs. Nic - Nilyne starts out singing "He wants to be like LL," which got everybody smiling. Nic goes next and there is a long bleep. If it's what I think he said it was pretty disgusting and extremely degrading. Nilyne doesn't look too pleased, nor do Missy and her dancers. Nilyne takes a cue from a Missy song saying that he's only a "one minute man." After Nic goes again, the judges vote. My vote would be for Nilyne and Melissa, Cori, Yelawolf and Frank B. all vote for her as well. Heather is the lone vote for Nic. Nilyne wins and she gets to pick the next competitor. She picks Matt.
