The Amazing Race, Episode 11 Awards: Decisions, Decisions

by Jenn Brasler -- 02/07/2005
This week, it all came down to choices. Who made good ones? Who made bad ones? And why are the people who usually made good decisions making bad ones?

The end is nearing, so we'd better make these last few awards of the season count!

First up this week is The Windshield Wipers of Good/Bad Decisions. This goes to Freddy and Kendra, who chose to yield Adam and Rebecca rather than Kris and Jon. On the one hand, this was a bad decision. Freddy and Kendra knew that Kris and Jon were tough competition - possibly their biggest competition - and yet they chose to let them keep playing. They yielded Adam and Rebecca because Adam and Rebecca yielded them on a previous leg, and they wanted revenge. However, this was also a good decision, at least from the viewpoint of Kris and Jon's fans. They didn't get yielded, and they wound up at the mat in third place. Therefore, Freddy and Kendra get The Windshield Wipers because I can't decide whether they were very smart or very stupid.

Adam receives The Crystal Ball of Looking Ahead. While Rebecca was finishing the Roadblock, Adam decided to make sure that a cab was ready and waiting for them. This way, the second Rebecca was done and ready to go, they wouldn't have to stand around and wait for a cab. Considering the bad luck teams have been having with cabs, Adam was very smart to try to save a couple of minutes.

This week, all four teams receive The Fleece-Lined Sleeping Bag of Roughing It. In past seasons of The Amazing Race, teams had no problem sleeping on the streets while waiting for various places to open. In the first season of the show, virtually every team would spend the night outside, even in the rain. This season, however, it seems as if no one even considers sleeping outside. They immediately head to a hotel for the night. Come on, people! Why are you all acting like pampered princesses? Take your Fleece-Lined Sleeping Bag and spend a night under the stars.

Kris and Jon once again receive an award, but, unfortunately, it's not a good one. They get The Rob and Brennan Honorary Rabbit's Foot of Taxi Luck. Early in the first season of The Amazing Race, Rob and Brennan weren't so nice to a cab driver. Throughout the race, they had bad luck with cab drivers, leading some viewers to speculate that they were experiencing Taxi Cab Karma. In the most recent leg of the race, Kris and Jon wound up with a bad cab driver and subsequently chose not to pay him. Let's hope that the Rabbit's Foot protects them from Taxi Cab Karma and guides them safely to the finish line.

Next week: one team walks away with a million dollars. I can't think of a prize better than that.
