The Ashlee Simpson Show - Season 2, Episode 6: Take a Picture, It’ll Last Longerby Jenn Brasler -- 03/04/2005
View Printable version of this article Previously on Ashlee: Ashlee worked on her movie, did some radio interviews, and won a Billboard Award. We’re at Ashlee et al.’s house at Christmastime. Ashlee’s busy over the holiday and she and her friends won’t get to spend Christmas together, so they’re having their own little celebration now. They decorate a tree and sing “Deck the Halls.” They move the tree and the top comes off, so they just pick up the two pieces and carry them across the room. Why didn’t they just pick the spot first and then decorate the tree there? I guess that would be too easy. They light up the tree, which has way too many decorations on it. Ashlee’s happy, even though the star on top is lopsided. Ashlee goes to Boston for a Jingle Ball concert. She likes going to Boston because her fans there are so supportive. Ryan is doing some Jingle Ball shows as well, and he’s already in Boston, so Ashlee is going to the venue early to see him and catch his set. Ashlee bugs Ryan while he’s on the phone and complains that he’s not paying her any attention. She must have been unbearable as a child. Later, she tells Steph that she thinks they’re about to break up. Ryan does his set. He announces that one of his songs is about people he misses while he’s away from them. Ashlee says that when he said that, she realized how much she misses him. Ashlee’s friend Lucy is now in her band, playing keyboards. Backstage, Tina thinks that Ashlee is dressed like a ringmaster. Yeah, you can’t really wear a red vest without looking like a ringmaster. Her band does some chant, yelling, “Go, ninja, go, ninja, go!” Ashlee does her set and says that she had a great show. Her band has really come together. After the show, Ashlee and Ryan hang out again. She says that it’s nice that they support each other. Now we’re in New York for another Jingle Ball show. Ashlee and Ryan are getting their hair and makeup done together. Ryan says that he’s going to dance better than Beyoncé onstage. Ashlee explains that the radio station Z100 held a contest where a listener could win a date with Ryan. Ryan says that Ashlee was mad when she heard about that, but she denies it. He calls her a liar and says that Joe had to calm her down. Ashlee says that she just said she’d go on a date with a listener, too. Ryan says that he bought a necklace, ring, and flowers for his date. Ashlee whines that she wants those things until Ryan tells her he was kidding. Ashlee says that they have their ups and downs, but at the end of the day, they care about each other. Ashlee does a radio interview before the show. Two fans, Amanda and Stephanie (because there can’t be too many Stephanies on this show), have won the chance to go shopping with Ashlee. Well, I don’t think it’s technically shopping, since they’re picking out free stuff from the “talent gift lounge” backstage. During her set, Ashlee puts on a green boa and sings a Christmas song. Then she heads back to L.A. for Christmas with her family. Ashlee and her friends go to Covenant House to serve a meal to homeless kids. They have to get dolled up in aprons and gloves. Ashlee learns how to chop lettuce. The girls have to put on hairnets, though they leave their bangs out of the nets. Doesn’t that kind of defeat the purpose? They serve the kids and one says that he really appreciates them being there. Another girl is happy that she got to meet a celebrity. After the meal, Ashlee et al head to the car and spot a guy with a camera watching them from his car. The guy follows them and Ashlee says that being followed by the paparazzi is scary. Ashlee et al go to a store called XIV Karats Ltd. so Ashlee can buy jewelry for her family for Christmas. Steph calls Jason, a member of Ashlee’s security team, about calling the police. She says that the guy with the camera has been following them for six hours. Someone in the store tells her that he’s parked across the street and a woman who works at the store figures out a way for the girls to leave the store from the back. Ashlee keeps shopping. Steph calls the police, but the cop who arrives tells her that the guy isn’t technically breaking the law, so there’s nothing he can do. Steph says that they’ll just have to figure out how to evade him. Apparently, they succeed. Ashlee takes her band out for Christmas dinner. They all wear fun hats. One of the guys gives Ashlee birdseed. I don’t know. Ashlee says that she’s had a busy year and she can’t wait to see what the next year brings. Next week: Ashlee sings at the Orange Bowl. She has to change some of the lyrics to “La La,” thanks to FCC fears, and Joe warns that she can’t afford to screw them up. When she puts in her earpiece, she finds problems with the feed. Interestingly (I guess), tonight’s episode of Newlyweds covered some of this stuff. So if you don’t want to know what happened, don’t read the recap yet!
