Caesars 24/7, Episode 11: One of Those Daysby Brian Towers -- 03/16/2005
View Printable version of this article This is the second of two back-to-back half-hour episodes of Caesars 24/7 airing tonight. Read on to get the lowdown of the second episode. You can read about the first episode here. The show opens as usual with a few teasers of the show ahead. An obnoxious high roller, and a look behind the scenes at a banquet. Can it get any better? Pit Boss Joe Camastro has been asked to be a casino host for real estate mogul Chris Craig. Chris is a high roller, but he’s also known to be a difficult guest. Caesars Palace wants him to stay there, so to entice him, they bought him a pass at the Mario Andretti Racing School. I looked it up on the web and they have a lot of different packages. There’s a six-lap package for $399 where you drive a 600 hp car with a top speed of 145 mph, a 24-lap 165 mph package for $1,299… and a 34-lap 170 mph package for $1,999. I wonder what Caesars sprung for? The objective of this treat is to put Chris in a good mood before he arrives at Caesars. The mikes don’t lie, Chris is digging this very much, but he tells his buddies he went 150 and he wanted to go much faster. Chris likes to live the rock star life. Our second tale is about dinner for 3,500. As you can imagine, the logistics of such an event are staggering, and executive steward Michael Croissy provides such services for all the restaurants and banquet halls at Caesars. Tonight, a high-profile first-time client is having a banquet. They are having dinner and then going to a Céline Dion concert. In those 90 minutes, the whole room must be cleared and reset for the group’s return for dessert. He is very short-staffed in his management team, and some of his key people are double-shifting. Also, only one dishwasher machine out of three is working! Meanwhile, casino host Joe meets high-roller Chris as he arrives. Joe asks about Mario Andretti’s. “Ahh, it was alright. They just won’t let you go fast enough,” Chris moans. As Joe takes Chris up to the suite, Chris tells Joe he’s difficult to satisfy. Chris says he wants the “Venus Pool” view… as though he’ll be spending any daytime in the room! Back at the banquet, dessert is just too darn good – they’re starting to run out of china. And to make things worse, two of Michael’s assistant managers are stuck in an elevator! Upstairs, Chris doesn’t like his room. Who didn’t see that coming? “A great suite has double doors,” he observes. And the tub is too small for “one guy and five women.” Joe shows him another suite, “the best one on the floor.” Chris doesn’t like the view (before he sees it) because it’s the “Strip view.” However, Chris reluctantly accepts this suite. I think Chris likes to be a hardass, just because he can. He says in an aside, “Of course I’m tough on people. I expect certain things.” Back to steward Michael. All the china is being returned, seemingly at once. His assistant managers are still hopelessly stuck in the elevator. They may have to call Otis, or Fire and Rescue. And sure enough, the last dishwashing machine breaks down. Needless to say, there’s dirty dishes piled up everywhere! Time for a new story. John, a young lawyer, is a very superstitious gambler. Besides the normal stuff about always using the same doors and always wearing the same clothes, he feels he needs to play craps with a “virgin roller.” In this case, that is someone who has never played craps before, not someone tossing dice who has never had sex. Luckily enough, Carol is discovered. John has lots of instructions, including, she must roll them aggressively with the fours up. Casino employee Jeff Eslinger informs us that this is not a unique concept, many gamblers think a brand new player is lucky. Me, I did not know that! Carol feels nervous, powerful and responsible all at once. It’s not easy being a virgin! It’s a crisis in the dishwasher area. Hundreds of dirty dishes are loaded onto carts and taken to another, smaller area to wash. The employees are doing their best, but some of the china doesn’t make it. However, Michael is on top of things and all his people seem to be embracing the spirit of this adventure. Moving all these items is really quite an operation! 1 2 Next-->View Printable version of this article |
