America's Next Top Model 4, Episode 7: Words Can’t Describe This One!

by Phil Kural -- 04/14/2005
In what will probably go down as the most shocking episode in America’s Next Top Model history, the girls learn some acting skills, have a sexy photo shoot, and a fun challenge at elimination. Then why so shocking? Tyra flips out, and it’s not pretty. Find out why – right here!

Previously, with her skin clearing up, Michelle was slowly regaining her confidence. However, Tiffany was losing hers. Brittany went over the top at a party, while Lluvy and Rebecca struggled with finding sexiness in themselves. Lluvy was sent home though after her third time standing in front of the judges. Seven girls are left. Who is going home tonight? All that and more, right now!

We begin this week on what looks like the same night the eliminations occurred. Kahlen and Rebecca are talking. Rebecca says her room is emptying out, and that she really likes Lluvy, who apparently left her a note. Rebecca was terrified and knows she looks too innocent in her shots. She misses her fiancé though. Kahlen tells her that the judges know her confidence is lacking, so she needs to work on it.

The girls go to dinner at Dolce, which is apparently a restaurant owned by Ashton Kutcher. Tiffany says that all this eating out is so much different that what she knows. She asks Keenyah what some things are, and says she isn’t used to eating raw things. I hear you, girlfriend, I’m the same way! She tells the camera that she just jokes it off, but it’s clear that she’s a fish out of water. We see her ask Kahlen where her juice is at the bottom of her cappuccino. Priceless!

Tyra mail says that the girls can walk the walk, now they have to learn how to talk the talk. We see the girls arrive at a player’s theater, and sit down in the studio. Everyone is nervous, as they meet Larry Moss, their acting coach. He tells them that as models, they might be called on to be a spokesperson for a company, so they have to work on their speech and image. Rebecca can see the correlation. Tiffany says they are there to learn Cockney English, and she can barely speak regular English. Why would they be called on to be a spokesperson and have to speak in Cockney English? What are they going to be a spokesperson for? The Quaker Oats guy? Brittany says it’s nothing but Chitty Chitty Bang Bang talk. I’m really staring to love Brittany again.

Each of the girls has to mimic a phrase that Larry teaches them. Rebecca is nervous, but Michelle is excited, since she has taken four years of drama training. Everyone gives it a go, and Tiffany is told that her accent is very southern, which will be a big handicap. Larry gives them a script and tells them to learn to be the character. Tomorrow they will be tested. Tiffany considers this an all-day challenge for her. Aww, why is Tiffany so down on herself this episode? I love her too much!

The girls get home and practice. Tiffany has no idea what Cockney English has to do with anything, and wins for best line of the night with “Girl, what is you talkin’ bout with all this?” She’s very confused, but wants to do her best. She calls her grandmom, and we get a flashback of how her grandmom let her lights get shut off to buy her a swimsuit the last time she auditioned. Tiffany tells her about how she’s struggling with speech, but granny gives her advice and tells her to hold strong.

The next morning, the girls are still practicing. Rebecca knows she isn’t doing a good job with the material. Michelle is confident that she might win this challenge. They arrive and are greeted by Larry. He tells them that they won’t be working with him, and in comes Boris Kodjoe, who is apparently in Soul Food. I never heard of him, but I don’t watch much TV, other than the shows I cover for RNO, The Simpsons and Desperate Housewives. All the girls are drooling, especially Tiffany. The girls now have ten minutes to get their makeup together and do their costumes. As they are putting on their rags, everyone is still practicing. Kahlen thinks she’s going to make a fool of herself.

Brittany is the first girl to go, but we get a few glimpses of everyone. It’s not pretty. Tatiana messes up all over the place, and Kahlen needs a lot of *bleeps.* Naima says she is always trying to do her best, while Michelle felt confident and thinks she might win. She felt great. Tiffany is the last girl to go, and it’s VERY bad. She even admits that she looked at Boris and they both laughed. She just laughs it off though, and now it’s time for the results. The girls come walking in, and Brittany is told by Boris that he loved her accent. Tatiana had issues with her lines and Kahlen needed someone to censor her. Christina skipped pages in her script, and Michelle lacked eye contact. Rebecca needed more passion, while Naima was very good, and so was Keenyah. Then Boris tells Tiffany that he likes her hat! Ha! The winner of the challenge will get to split $10,000 in diamonds with two friends, and our winner is… Naima! Michelle looks pretty dejected, but then Naima picks her, and all is fine. Tatiana is also picked. Tiffany isn’t very happy at this point.

All the girls sit around and talk. Keenyah says that some of the girls call Cockney English “ghetto English.” Tiffany says that many intelligent people live in the ghetto, like her mom and grandmom. Keenyah says that people don’t understand it sometimes. Tiffany tells the camera she is sick of changing, and is unhappy. Maybe being a model isn’t who she is. Oh no, yes it is, Tiffany! The girls head out for their reward, and are brought to the basement of a bank. They walk into the vault and look at diamonds. Naima gets a necklace with a yellow diamond, since it’s unique like her. Michelle and Tatiana get rings – not too shabby!
