The Assistant, Episode 6: Planning a Day of Hell

by Phil Kural -- 08/17/2004
This week, Andy gets back together with the ex-girlfriend that he had Colin break up with two episodes ago. To ease the pain, he has his assistants plan a day for the two of them at a spa. Two more cuts this week leave us with the final two. Is Tanika lucky (or unlucky) enough to be in the finals?

Previously on The Assistant, Stefani was cut because she was the last person to Andy's room in the morning. On a lighter note, the remaining assistants and Andy went on a camping trip, where lessons about Hollywood were learned, but trust was broken, meaning Andy needed to hook them all up to a lie detector machine. In the end, Anna was clipped because Andy felt she was fake and lying to him. Only four assistant-hopefuls remain. Who will win? Well, two more people leave us tonight!

Another early day. It's 8:30 a.m. and the buzzer in the garage is going off. Everyone is scared and runs to Andy's room, practically rolling under the little bit the garage has opened. They're all scared Andy will cut the last one to his room, like he did to Stefani. Tanika says she is walking on eggshells. Nobody is cut when they reach Andy's room, but they are still surprised. It looks like Andy has gotten back with his ex, Jen. Colin is confused because he just broke up with her for Andy the other day. Everyone still claps, and Andy tells the camera he's glad he can now have make-up sex. Wait a damn minute! Someone told me Andy Dick is an openly gay dude. Is that true?

Anyway, Andy is worried that he and Jen are still on the rocks, and Jen says that Melissa is trying to start things between them. I don't know why she has that impression -- Melissa is pretty much the sweetest one there! Regardless, Andy says he needs a day at the spa for himself and Jen, and tells the assistants to go plan it -- and don't forget a limo. Andy tells the camera that he loves Jen... wait, he changes his mind, he just likes her. Ha!

The assistants are working hard on planning Andy and Jen's day. Andy and Jen are still in bed and Jen asks Andy to eliminate "Blondie" which is what she calls Melissa. Melissa tells the camera that things are going along very well, and that's when the pink limo pulls up. Andy sees it and says he hates pink -- who do you think he is, Liberace? Jen is equally as upset, saying it makes them look like they are selling cosmetics. She then freaks out and Andy tries to calm her down. Jen then decides to blame it all on Melissa, saying that she got them a pink limo to match the shirt she's wearing. Melissa insists that wasn't the case, and her shirt is corral, not pink. How can you not love this? Andy finally talks Jen into going, and that's when Tanika informs us that the limo doesn't have air conditioning. Everyone seems to be sweating up a storm. Okay, I finally have no doubt in my mind that this whole show is set up. A limo with no air? Not possible, unless you want to be put out of business. I love this show!

Everyone arrives at the spa. As Colin tries to check Andy in, the woman at the desk says there is no reservation. The assistants begin to worry when she also says there are no rooms available today. Andy questions how the reservation got lost, and she tells him none was ever made in the first place. Colin insists he made it, which makes Andy yell at the lady, causing a scene I thought only my mother was capable of. The woman says there is some kind of "Pow Wow" in town, and they will never find a room anywhere close. Mykell begins the search for a new place to stay. Tanika finds a quaint little place called the Carriage Inn that looks like a standard hotel room. I'm thinking the budget wasn't very high for this episode. Andy tells the camera that he's so close to make-up sex, but everyone keeps screwing it up on him. Jen, of course, hates the Carriage Inn, and yells at Andy, saying she was promised better. Tanika looks petrified and confused, while Mykell tells the camera they are all scared of getting clipped.

Andy says he has a friend named Trey that has a "queer eye for design." Oh. No. So Andy's friends come and start dancing on the bed. One of the guys, Brent, says they can fix anything, and Trey agrees. They begin renovating the room and telling the assistants what they can do to make it more romantic. This is really getting a good laugh out of me. Mykell is shown how to give someone a massage with a paint roller. Tanika learns how to take lamp shades and stick flowers on them to lighten the mood. There was a way to make bubbles in the tub to make it feel like a jacuzzi, but it's not working. The assistants do their best to get the room ready, and Mykell says he's happy with the results.

Andy and Jen arrive back at the room. Jen is drunk, so it seems. Yoga mats are on the floor, and Andy doesn't get it. There are also some sayings cut out and placed on the bed, like "I love you" and "You're special." Jen ruins them and isn't impressed. Mykell tries to help her, and Colin attempts to give her a massage with a roller. Instead, he sexually harasses her when he rubs the roller on her a$$, and she has a fit. At this point, Colin thinks he's done for. Well, I can say at this point, your future isn't looking bright, my friend. To recover from the ordeal, Andy and Jen decide on a bath. The "Renovaters" told the assistants to put some gunk in the bath water, which makes it look like urine and vomit. Andy calls it "toxic soup" and says it smells like a$$. Jen isn't happy once again, but they still get in and look miserable. Andy begins to flip out, and it looks like Jen is trying to hold in laughter -- and she has to because I think she's an actor since Andy Dick is gay, right? At least I don't have to hold in my laughter like Jen. So Jen gets out of the tub and starts throwing things in it. Colin blows bubbles in the tub for Andy through a tube, while Melissa and the others try get Jen to come back. Andy thanks them for ruining his relationship, and promises that someone will be clipped soon.
