Real World Philadelphia, Episode 19: If the Bure’s A Rockin’by Sting7 -- 01/20/2005
View Printable version of this article The gang is absolutely giddy preparing for their trip to Fiji. Shavonda warns Shawn that there may be skinny-dipping. Shawn would rather there not be. Shavonda's already decided, so his objection is overruled, as you can imagine. Shavonda tells us she told him, so her conscience is clear. The bus rolls up and off everybody goes to the airport. Karamo was even on time! Next thing you know, it's tropical gorgeousness (in reality, that plane ride was probably close to 15 hours long!). The gang arrives at Robinson Crusoe Island on a ferry to singing locals and drops their bags in their bures. Shavonda tells us the resort is rustic, but cool nonetheless. They head to the bar, where there are fire dancers performing. Sarah has a different kind of fire going. She's holding court with five guys. Looks like blond, British Freddie is the boy du jour. Sarah lures him back to her bure, and to her horror... He doesn't want to have sex. She's having trouble dealing. Sarah is not one to dwell on the negative, though. Shavonda says Sarah's eye is on the prize. Sarah lures another Brit to the bure. Shavonda arrives to grab something, and Man #2 dashes off! Sarah remains untainted. Shavonda tells Landon of Sarah's plight, and he finds it hilarious. Sarah says she finally got a hold of Man #3, Alex, and they "make out, but we don't have sex." I don't believe her. Do you? In another bure, Landon lays his cards on the table, one more time for Shavonda. It's the island, it's the music, moon, spoon, June, but I really wanna kiss ya. Shavonda tells us Landon is "her boy," and sure she's attracted to him, but she's not feeling that yet. The next morning, Mel has apparently told Sarah that the British boys have discussed Sarah at length.... and it wasn't flattering. Mel tells Karamo she thinks Sarah is upset with her. Meanwhile, Sarah and Willie take a walk around the island and discuss Mel. Sarah thinks Mel is judging her again. Later, they go to an island ceremony, where there is dancing, and music, and baby powder thrown in your face. Those nutty Fijians. Everyone has a great time, and buzzes about it as they head back to the resort. Shavonda tells us ominously that it was something in the air, something about the night, and something... happened. Mel does her buzzing with the British boys, which galls Sarah. I thought we were friends! Why would Mel chummy up with guys who think her friend is a slut? (Fair question.) Sarah vents to Shavonda and Landon in the bure, as Mel comes in. All conversation ceases. Mel playfully asks, "where ya talking about me?" Sarah scowls. Mel prods Sarah to tell her why she's upset. Sarah finally confronts her. Mel makes it seem like it was all very impromptu. Sarah asks why would Mel sit with them? Mel counters that, well, Sarah, you did hook up with three of them. Sarah doesn't take that bit of honesty well. Sarah says she's disgusted with Mel. In another bure, it appears to Landon and Shavonda are sealing the deal! Suddenly, in the midst of all that smooching and heavy breathing, Shavonda dashes off into the night. So long to Robinson Crusoe Island, as they head to a more traditional resort. Sarah and Mel try to hash out their differences. Mel plays the "we were only talking" card, without trying to see Sarah's point at all. Landon and MJ do a post mortem on the failed Landon and Shavonda coupling. MJ says he had fifty Fijian bucks on it. He lost. So far.
