Real World Philadelphia, Episode 24: 100% In

by Sting7 -- 03/07/2005
So, what do you do when your girlfriend and your best friend come to town at the same time, both demanding your undivided attentions? MJ doesn't know either. In fact, his tempestuous relationship with his girlfriend takes a shocking and final turn. Exaggerating? Just look at his face!

MJ tells Landon and Shavonda that he is ready to slow down the partying. Ashley is coming to town and MJ has decided that she is his girlfriend. Honest and for true. Ashley and MJ chat on the phone about how much they can’t wait to make out. MJ tells us he’s well aware of how juvenile that is, but he can’t help it!

That make out session will be well-earned. Ashley calls and says she’s still in Nashville. Five hour delay. MJ agonizes. He says he hates not being in control of his situation. I can relate. Ashley whines that she’s going to be stuck in the airport for five hours. What does she expect MJ to do about this, I don’t know. Already don’t like her. MJ agonizes some more. Then Ashley calls again. They lost her luggage. It’s probably on a plane to Philadelphia without her. More agonizing. MJ says his best friend David is also coming to town, "David and I are the same person, it’s just that he happens to be 7'1" and black!" (Jayzus! 7'1"???)

Ashley finally arrives, and she and MJ chat in bed of course. Then comes David, who is as enormous as advertised. Landon says David is like MJ’s protégé – in high school, MJ helped David through a lot of stuff and he has become successful. David was just drafted by the Indiana Pacers! David meets everyone and finds himself in Karamo’s bedroom. Ashley and MJ are fighting. MJ wants to take David on the town, Ashley wants to rest at home. MJ is torn. Ashley is clearly mad. MJ says she won’t admit when she’s angry, but he can tell.

Ashley goes out, but shoots daggers at him the whole night. Back home, David is ready to head to his hotel. MJ offers to walk him, David says he doesn’t have to. MJ insists. Ashley pouts. On the walk, David says he wishes MJ well. MJ says when he didn’t get drafted by the NFL after college, he’s been floating around deciding what he should. Meanwhile, Landon tells Shavonda that David told him the MJ that he sees in Philly is nothing like the MJ at home. Landon says that bothers him, that there is a side to MJ he doesn’t know. He feels a bit closed out.

MJ takes Ashley to the zoo to the see the monkeys and confess. Yes, he has done more than kiss a few girls. MJ says Ashley takes that news surprisingly well. It’s time for her to go, and he apologizes that their fight over David put a damper on the weekend. Ashley says don’t worry about it. But, a different Ashley calls to say she got home safely. There are things she wants to ask MJ, but not while they are being recorded. MJ asks if it’s bad stuff, and she laughs haughtily. He begs her to tell him what’s on her mind and she refuses. He says it’s selfish of her to pull this kind of stunt. He gets frustrated and hangs up on her.

The next morning, he calls to see if she’s okay after last night. A looong day ensues and he calls her that night. She answers. She immediately lashes into him for hanging up on her. Then she starts the song and dance about having things she wants to clear up before they go any further – but she doesn’t want to talk about it while he’s on camera. (Honey, he’s always on camera!) MJ wants again tells her she’s being selfish and she doesn’t like. She reminds him that he broke up with her with a phone call when he got to Philadelphia, and she gave him his "me" time to do whatever he wanted to do. (She has point, even MJ admits to us.) MJ drops a gauntlet, but she drops one of her own, "Okay, am I 100% into you? No, I’m not 100% into you!" MJ says he doesn’t know how anyone can change their feelings that quickly. He says, if she’s not then he’s not anymore either. Okay then, she says snottily. And they hang up. So much for that relationship. MJ says he was banking a lot on her being there when he came home. Now that she’s not, he’s kind of afraid.

Landon says he thinks MJ knows they have drifted apart. Both are having a restless night, so why not talk it out. MJ asks what are Landon’s issues with him. Landon says MJ is hiding a part of his life from Landon, from what David says. MJ says the only thing he hasn’t shared in the house is his anger, because when he gets angry, "it gets bad." MJ says that admires how Landon has embraced the opportunity they all have been given. MJ feels that he "could have invested more." This is clearly the shortened version, but they have a bro handshake and it appears to have erased the rift. Landon tells us he and MJ are on solid ground again.
