“I Would Do It Again in a Heartbeat” – An Interview with Wickedly Perfect’s Kimberlyby Jenn Brasler -- 03/15/2004
View Printable version of this article On Wickedly Perfect, Kimberly had to undergo difficult challenges, infighting, the threat of elimination, and a severe lack of sleep. In the end, she persevered and won. In this interview with Reality News Online, Kimberly gives all of the details of her experience. RealityNewsOnline: Thank you for doing this interview! Congratulations on your win. How did you hear about Wickedly Perfect? Kimberly: My neighbor originally mentioned the concept of the show to me and suggested I look into it. I later found some information on one of my crafting websites, and then I searched the internet to find out more. RNO: Who did you see as your biggest competition? Kimberly: I figured going into this that they were looking for someone with great creative energy, well rounded skills, and a likeable personality. I thought Denise exhibited all of these traits. She seemed to me, from the beginning, everything they would be looking for, and therefore my biggest competition. RNO: Which challenge was your favorite? Kimberly: I loved the camping challenge. I really felt like we worked well as a team and I definitely laughed the hardest during this challenge. I like camping, so being creative outdoors was a great time for me. RNO: Which challenge was the most difficult for you? Kimberly: The apple challenge in the first episode was the most frustrating. I had not really figured out the game yet and I felt disconcerted. My creative energy was low, the team was not working efficiently, and I felt like a prisoner on a sinking ship. I prefer not to watch that episode, especially since we got slaughtered by the other team. RNO: We saw you a little punch drunk from lack of sleep a few times. How much sleep did you guys get? Kimberly: Usually our challenges were about 36-48 hours long. We rarely slept during a challenge, only between them. Unfortunately, there was very little time between challenges. I would say we got roughly four hours sleep every 48 hours for five weeks straight. RNO: The teams on the show underwent a lot of changes. Which combination do you think was the best? Kimberly: My ideal team would have been Dawn, Denise, Darlene, Mychael, and Tim. I never had that combination, so I will say the carriage house challenge with Dawn and Denise was the easiest. We all had the same style and similar ideas for details and how things needed to be finished. The absence of in-fighting improved the work climate and we were all in sync as to how things should be done. RNO: Who was more difficult for you to deal with - Margo or Mitch? Kimberly: I think more than anyone, Margo was determined to win. She was focused on the end prize, as she should have been, but in her eagerness to remain in the game she stepped over the line. In the beginning, I really liked working with Margo. Because I had initially connected with her, I felt betrayed by her in the living art challenge when she attempted to co-opt the frame project. After that it became a trust issue more than anything. Mitch did not really bother me. I thought he was funny and entertaining. I think it bothered Mitch more to work with me - and that made it even more entertaining. RNO: Right before the B&B challenge, when the Beavers chose Darlene for their team, did you realize that it was because Mitch wanted you and Margo to keep butting heads? Kimberly: Mitch would have liked any hand in my demise - I was aware of that from day one - but his strategy here was not effective. Darlene, as fun as she was, was not acting as an even keel for me and Margo. If his intent was to rock my boat, he would have been better served to have chosen Dawn. She was my even keel in this whole game. RNO: Did you think that your team would choose you or Tom during the first vote? Kimberly: I was pretty confident before the vote that they would keep me. I knew Dawn and Darlene would vote to keep me. I was not sure about Margo or Michelle, but I knew they were skeptical of Tom's behavior before the vote. Tom’s speech at the Rock Garden was the clincher - I was certain then that I was staying. RNO: Did you think that Mitch would choose you or Dawn after the antique challenge? Kimberly: Without question - Mitch was going to keep Dawn. Mitch wanted me out of the contest from the first episode, as evidenced by his chat with Tom and then again with Dawn when I was up for both eliminations. Those were the only times this sort of behavior occurred between teams and Mitch was at the center of both. This was especially bewildering to me since, before the antique challenge, Mitch had never even worked with me and therefore had no real knowledge of my skill level. Kind of makes you wonder why he cared so much. RNO: Any regrets? Would you do the show again? Kimberly: Participating in this show was an incredible learning experience for me. It was honestly one of the most physically and emotionally challenging things I have ever done. In addition to the remarkable experience, I made a very good friend in Dawn. I am content with how everything turned out and I have no regrets. I would do it again in a heartbeat. RNO:Thanks again! And by the way, I really liked that headboard, too. Kimberly: Thank you for your time. Glad you liked the headboard! Jenn Brasler is an aspiring writer from Falls Church, VA. You can e-mail her at luckyjenn@hotmail.com.
