The Apprentice 4, Episode 3 Extras: Extra Toral Hate!by Betsy Wasser -- 10/13/2005
View Printable version of this article First of all, big thanks to Jenn Brasler for doing such an outstanding job with her recap of this week’s show. Jenn, you can be my eyes and ears any time! And now, it’s time for me to return the favor, by checking out the online Apprentice extras for Jenn. Unfortunately, two computers and several different browsers refused to load the Yahoo extras. Perhaps I need to attend a Tethno Expo. But luckily, the NBC website has an exit interview with Jen W. that revealed a lot. What’s the dirt? What got cut out in editing? Let’s find out. Jen W. tells us that one of the things we didn’t see on the show was that in the Boardroom, Trump went through six women, and all of them said that Rebecca should be fired for the results of the task, and that Toral should be fired for her overall performance. Jen adds that all of them said that if Rebecca didn’t bring Toral to the Boardroom, Trump should fire her. Rebecca, as we all now know, did not bring Toral back to the Boardroom. Rebecca was the Project Manager of a losing team and she arguably opted not to bring someone back to the Boardroom for personal reasons. These are both things that have historically prompted Trump to give someone the axe, so I wonder if he sees something in Rebecca that impresses him. Jen says that Jen M. was really flirtacious with the men at the senior center. The men all loved it and got a real kick out of watching her do pushups. Jen W. says that it isn’t her style to win that way, but she doesn’t seem to hold it against Jen M. that she did that. It will be interesting to see if this is an ongoing theme with Jen M., because if it is, I don’t think Carolyn will be very impressed. Just ask Ivana. Jen sighs that there were a lot of things that weren’t shown. She says that she wanted to use the in-house caterer for the event, which would have cost $600 of the $1,200 seed money that the team had. However, Felesha designed posters for the even which cost $500-$600 to print. Interesting, because although I do remember the banners the men’s team had, I don’t remember any posters at the women’s event. Anyway, because of these posters, Rebecca slashed Jen’s budget to less than $300. Jen reports that Rebecca encouraged her to just go to the grocery store and get the food there, so that’s what she did. Jen also wanted to set up the tables the night before the event, but Rebecca told her not to. So, Jen spent the morning setting up, and she needed help. Jen says that “Toral refused” to pitch in, and that the other women were busy setting up their own stations. Jen blames Rebecca’s refusal to let her set up ahead of time for the event’s lackluster appearance. Now it looks like she can’t throw a party, and Jen assures us that’s not the case. She says the ongoing joke with her friends now is that she needs to go on the Martha Stewart version of the show so that Martha can show her how to throw a party. I bet Martha would have made sure “techno” was spelled correctly on that cake. Jen’s comments here are telling. She seems unwilling to accept any of the responsibility for the event planning even though it was, in fact, her job. She may not have had a lot of money to spend on food, and maybe Rebecca told her to go to the grocery store to get it, but I bet Rebecca didn’t tell her to spell techno wrong on the cake. And the grocery store might not be the most glamorous place to do your catering, but I can tell you, with $300 to spend at the grocery store, I would have come up with quite a party. The men’s food was nothing fancy either – in fact, when I was watching the show, I thought that it looked like deli trays from a grocery store. But they managed to make it all look a lot more appealing than Jen did. I also find it interesting that she said that Toral refused to help her, and that the other women were busy. Was Toral just sitting around on her butt refusing to work or to help other people, or maybe was she also working, but Jen doesn’t like Toral and filters everything through that. Finally, Jen says that she thinks Rebecca’s friendship with Toral clouded her judgment, and that’s why Rebecca didn’t take her friend back to the Boardroom. She wonders if Rebecca sees something in Toral that the rest of them don’t. Why else would she think Toral can win it all? Jen tells the rest of her team to stay strong. If Toral slacks off again, they need to make sure she doesn’t get away with it. She concludes that while she respects Rebecca’s loyalty to Toral, Rebecca needs to remember that it’s not personal, it’s business. Rebecca should have been more mature. Is Toral as brilliant as Rebecca claims she is? Do the other women just not like her? It’s looking possible, but I’m reserving my judgment. I’m sure we’ll learn more in this week’s episode. I’ll see you with the full recap then. Betsy Wasser is the Associate Editor of Reality News Online and excels at grocery shopping. She can be reached with any comments at betsywasser@gmail.com .
