Here Come the Newlyweds 2, Episode 6: You are Feeling Very, Very Sleepyby Jennifer Tsao -- 07/01/2009
View Printable version of this article The four remaining couples gather in the living room to hear Pat explain their first challenge. Pat says the pot is currently $340,000 and that their challenge will take place outside. The couples end up at a basketball court and Pat says that today’s challenge is about knowing your partner’s athletic ability. Each person has to guess how many free throws (out of three tries) his or her partner will make. Pat says that every match is worth $10,000 and that every basket made is worth an additional $5,000. Amazingly, most of the couples don’t make a single basket. The overall showing of athletic prowess is pretty pathetic. Mark Corliss makes one basket and Kenny and Makayla McMorris each make one. Marlo and Mark Corliss each correctly guess each others’ baskets for two matches. Kenny and Makayla don’t match at all as Kenny expected Makayla to make no baskets and Makayla thought Kenny would make two baskets. Sarin Hinkins thought Jed would make two baskets, not zero and Jed thought Sarin would make one. Audra Newberry guessed that Rich would make two and Rich guessed that Audra would make one. Since they didn’t make any, there is no match. Pat tells the couples to pick one person to make a final shot. If the shot goes in, Pat will double the $35,000 they just won. The couples pick Kenny McMorris to make the shot. That’s a lot of pressure! Kenny nails it; it’s a $35,000 shot! Pat tells us that the final pot is now $410,000 and one of the four couples left is going home with quite a nest egg. We go back to the living room where Pat introduces, Kevin Stone, a licensed hypnotherapist, to the couples. We discover that Makayla McMorris is one of those people who pronounce hypnotize as, “hip-mo-ties.” Kevin puts the couples under. Most of the women don’t go under, but the guys are clearly susceptible to hypnosis. Kevin has a lot of fun with Kenny McMorris and Jed Hinkins as he makes them pass out randomly. Kevin then suggests to Kenny that he acts super romantic with Makayla. It is really cute but he shouldn’t have to be hypnotized to be romantic! Jed Hinkins and Rich Newberry follow suit with their wives, but Mark Corliss just laughs when given the suggestion to be romantic. Nice. The next day Pat introduces the challenge for safety from the vote. The challenge is to create a living room that reflects each couple’s tastes. Nate Berkes, from The Oprah Winfrey Show, is the judge for this challenge. The couples go to a furniture store and begin to pick out furniture and then head back to their rooms to paint the walls and set everything up. We get to see the McMorrises’ room first. Nate likes the creativity that they used as they put one of their curtains on the back of the couch and handpainted a pillow. The Corlisses have a simple room with bright red walls. The Newberrys have an incredibly minimal room; there is very little furniture and everything is done in tasteful neutrals. Nate says they did a great job. The Hinkins have a bright blue wall and a mix of different styles. Nate says they created a bright and happy space. Nate announces that the McMorrises and Newberrys did the best and he chooses the Newberrys for the win. This is the second week in a row that the McMorrises have ended up in second place behind the Newberrys. Pat offers the Newberrys $40,000 to give up their safety. They discuss the offer over and decide to keep their safety and a guarantee to be in the final three. The couples head back for dinner and discussion about tomorrow’s vote and the editing makes it seem that the McMorrises are going home. We’ll see how that plays out. The next day the couples gather in the back yard for the vote. Pat takes all the votes and announces that the Hinkins and the Corlisses have received the most votes. So much for the editing! Pat cuts to the chase and tells us that, once again, the Corlisses are staying. Everyone says goodbye to the Hinkins and Sarin confronts Makayla for voting for her and Jed. Awkward! Next week the final three couples get made over to be older and have another baby-themed challenge. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out these other recent articles on Reality News Online:
