“I Did Not Like the Clique Twist At All” – RealityNewsOnline’s Exclusive Interview with Big Brother 11’s Laura

by David Bloomberg -- 07/24/2009
Laura came into the house looking like typical eye candy, but was perhaps ironically voted out in part because she was smarter than some of the others gave her credit for. What were her plans in the game and where did they go wrong? Why does she think she was given the boot? What might she have done differently? Laura answers all these questions and more, right here!

As you’ll see below, Laura has been a big Big Brother fan for years now, and relished the opportunity to play the game. Unfortunately, she didn’t really have much of a chance to do so. What does she think went wrong? And what does she have to say about housemates like Ronnie and Jessie? Read on to find out.

RealityNewsOnline: Hi, Laura, and thanks for taking the time to talk to us here at RealityNewsOnline! Let’s start at the beginning. Did you have a specific planned strategy coming into the game?

Laura: I had absolutely no specific strategy. I’ve been following the show religiously since Season 3, so I had a lot of strategies in mind. I was going to play on what the cast was like. Once I saw the cast, I figured I should probably stay low, which is what I tried to do. But I didn’t realize what was going on behind my back and they were forming all these alliances, and it was too late when I realized it. It kind of backfired. I had to come out of my shell too quickly.

RNO: Was part of your strategy to use your looks to your advantage while hiding your intelligence?

Laura: Obviously, yeah. I totally planned on being the pretty girl who everybody thinks I just want to be on TV, that I don’t know anything about the game, flirt with people and be supersweet to the girls and play dumb a little bit. But it didn’t work because of the high school theme. Everybody was so judgmental, people thought I was being superficial and fake and thought I thought I was the popular one, so it backfired.

RNO: Did your deduction that Ronnie was the tie vote in the first eviction show your intellect and thus ruin your strategy?

Laura: I think part of me realizing Ronnie was the rat was part of my downfall. I don’t know the order of events they showed, but he didn’t know I was on to him until after the Veto. Ronnie was close to Jessie and he wanted me gone. After that, I told Jordan and that might have been part of why I went home because Jordan is so naïve and let it slip. She didn’t do it to be malicious, but she told Ronnie.

RNO: Did the division of the house into cliques force you to change your game plan?

Laura: The division into the cliques completely forced me to change my game plan. It made this season so much different. The Athletes have four [people] and they are the strongest. It really threw a curve ball my way. I didn’t have a strong team competitively or in game knowledge. Braden and Jordan didn’t have much game knowledge and I was backed into the corner and I was really scared. I did not like the clique twist at all.

RNO: Given all that happened in the past couple days, you told Julie Chen that you think Ronnie will likely be the next one to go – given how quickly things can change in the house, will you be surprised if he sticks around?

Laura: I hope that Ronnie is the next one to go. I’m pretty sure everybody is wise enough to know he needs to go, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he stayed. Things change by the second, by the minute, by the hour in the house. We had a roundtable discussion about backdooring Ronnie. Casey brought up what up if Jessie’s HOH – which is really ironic because he is – and he puts up me and Kevin but what if Jessie wins POV and we get into a fight and he leavs me on the block? People, especially this cast, play this game very personally.

RNO: In what other regards have you seen that aspect?

Laura: Everybody is really malicious. I was put on the block for a personal reason. Nobody knew why I was put on the block but then people speak really negatively about each other. If you get into an argument about the game, the way they dress or talk or act gets brought into it. You can just tell – I hate to see that happen, being such a Big Brother fan.

RNO: It’s almost like it is indeed back to high school again.

Laura:It’s totally like high school. We were cast to be like high school. It really works like that. I felt like everybody disliked me because I was quote-unquote popular in the house – and I wasn’t even popular! It felt like reliving high school.
