“I Had to Roast a Couple Guys” – RealityNewsOnline’s Exclusive Interview with Big Brother 11’s Caseyby David Bloomberg -- 07/31/2009
View Printable version of this article RealityNewsOnline: Hi, Casey, and thanks for taking the time to talk to us here at RealityNewsOnline! First of all, let me speak for a number of viewers and RealityNewsOnline writers who have already e-mailed me when I say: Best speech ever. Casey: Wow! That’s what I was going for, David. I want to go down in the annals of roasting and I had to roast a couple guys. Had to go out guns blazing, man. RNO: It seems you obviously knew you were going home when you gave your final speech – or did you think you might convince enough people to vote your way? Casey: I was on the fence. I knew I needed five votes – four to four would have been a tie and Jessie would send me home, the punk. I really didn’t think I had ‘em. The man in me, the testosterone in me, had enough. I had bit my tongue in efforts to be friendly, but in that house it was not enough. Having been a fan and watched for years, I always thought this speech is useless, people have their minds set and they know what they will do. But I thought Chima may or may not [switch her vote], but her speech [a couple weeks ago] let me know it might be possible. I thought my characterization of the houseguests as sheep was accurate and I thought it might make some people put their egos aside – I finally had enough and I finally had to lash out. RNO: Last week at this time, did you think in a million years it would be you going home instead of Ronnie? Casey: I did not. People got short memories in there. I would have told you that the anti-Ronnie sentiment in the house was thick. What idiots would keep this dude around and go against the entire house? We now know who that idiot is, it was Jessie. I thought he had done enough to warrant going home. He had stabbed everybody in the house in the back, he had fabricated quotes out of thin air. To me that seemed like enough. Come to find out people will let you off the hook in there. I should have been a jerk the whole time and been like, “Oh no, I was just kidding.” RNO: Do you think you were too hard on Ronnie last week? Casey: Not at all. He deserved every bit he got, my friend. Ronnie is responsible for me sitting here right now. Two things: They came to me with a plan – hey we’ve got five votes, you’re going to be the sixth, we’re sending Chima home. He switches on us, it’s five to five, Jessie votes Braden out, and I’m on the short end of the stick. That move right there is why I’m sitting here. That backstab cost me a half a million dollars. So, no, I don’t have any regrets about how I treated Ronnie – I should have probably treated him worse! But I didn’t because I thought I went at him pretty hard but didn’t go at him real hard. I started to crack on him and bust his balls every time he walked by and go into his bedroom and wake him up a la Evel Dick. But I know what I know about people and that gives him more power over me. I didn’t want to let him feel like he’s got me and he wins even bigger. RNO: Do you think your behavior in the house, especially the way you acted last week towards Ronnie, was up to the standard that would be expected of a teacher? Casey: Very interesting question. Teachers are people. This idea that we’re saints is false. George Bush did some things he shouldn’t have done and he was the president. Obama smoked. I get the fact that we’re held to higher standards. I hope you’re hearing about Ronnie’s lack of a moral compass. I’m hoping I got a job when I get home – I don’t think it was that terrible. I curse, I like to have a glass of wine. We’re human. If I want to take my wife dancing on a Friday night or go have a drink, I’m not doing anything illegal. I think my behavior – we have an office of prof stds and they are satisfied with me. I don’t dress or talk the same way after hours that I do at school. I’m able to separate the two. If you [fail] to do that, society is setting themselves up. If they have animosity towards my behavior, you’re going down a tough road when you want to call into question [a teacher’s] behavior outside their job. I meet the standards for the classroom. Ronnie wasn’t a nice guy and deserved everything he got, and I will say that until I’m blue in the face. He should have got worse! Punk! RNO: You noted that Laura was voted out because she wasn’t a sheep, and the same was true of you. Did you consider acting like a sheep to try to stay around? Casey: Of course I did. Honestly, I acted like one. I toed the quote-unquote company line – Jessie is great and you guys are great and all that stuff. But I got to a point where I couldn’t do it anymore. They won, they were in power, I can’t argue with that. But I couldn’t do it anymore. I considered in the last 48 hours going to Jessie and kissing his butt. But I couldn’t sheep it up like that. Call it ego, testosterone, self-respect – let’s call it self-respect, David. There are some things that are more important than that game. RNO: Would you have gone after Jessie if you’d stayed in the house? Casey: Of course! Had he not done what he did to me, I would have stuck to our agreement until near the end. We talked early and agreed to that. One of my strategies going into the house was to have an ally on the other side of the house. I’ve seen that work in previous seasons. We can look out for each other and when it goes to the final thee or four, may the best man win. So I was going to stick by that and had no intention of putting that guy up. RNO: Do you have anything else you’d like to tell us about your time on Big Brother? Casey: It’s a lot harder than people think, being locked in a house 24/7. I thought I was a strong-minded guy and I thought there were times when I was going to lose my mind. It messes with your mind. Had the dynamics in the house been different, I would have done a little better, but there was a generation gap between some of the houseguests and myself. That being said, I’m really appreciative of Big Brother and the entire staff for selecting me to participate. It’s reaffirming to find that people like me and I was appreciative of the opportunity.
