“Everything Was Part of the Game” – RealityNewsOnline’s Exclusive Interview with Big Brother 11’s Russellby David Bloomberg -- 08/31/2009
View Printable version of this article Russell definitely showed many sides to his personality, which sometimes caused viewers to scratch their heads and wonder what he was thinking. To find out, I asked him! When were his personal attacks real and when were they part of the game? What kind of strategy was he playing? Read on to find out what he had to say. RealityNewsOnline: Hello, Russell, and thanks for taking the time to answer these questions from RealityNewsOnline. You said that your strategy involved trying to incorporate parts of the games of Evel Dick, Dan, Mike Boogie, and Dr. Will. The Evel Dick side of you was pretty obvious – what were the Dan, Dr. Will, and Mike Boogie parts? Russell: The Dan part was when I would let some of the other people fight and not jump in and sit in the background even though they were really my battles to fight. For Dr. Will, I tried to be upfront with people and let them know that I was playing a game and was there for the money. The Mike part was definitely trying to charm the ladies. Win them over and charm with a funny side. Show a side that wasn’t really tough guy. RNO: You also said that personal attacks are part of the game. But just because something is allowed doesn’t make it right. Do you feel that what you said and did was okay? Russell: I think that everyone knows the rules of the game when they sign on the bottom line. And you knew what you were stepping into when you came into the house. It’s not my fault if you don’t have tough skin. RNO: So if you win at all costs, it’s just the winning that matters? Russell: The premise of the game is to lie, cheat, and backstab. Does it really matter how you win? This isn’t moralistic Big Brother. RNO: Do you feel bad about anything you said? Russell: No. I think everyone is an intelligent and unique person. I don’t harbor any resentment towards anyone. RNO: If a lot of what we saw was an act, what is the real Russell like? Russell: The real Russell is quiet, sometimes, and polite. RNO: You laughed when Julie Chen showed you Jeff and Jordan’s goodbyes – what were you thinking as you watched them? Russell: I was thinking that they took the game personally and I didn’t and that’s a difference in our game styles. RNO: You admitted to Julie that Jeff made a good move. Does that mean you won’t hold any grudges from the game? Russell: None at all. I will not hold a single grudge. RNO: If you could redo any moment in the house, but one not related to the game, what would it be? Russell: Not related to the game? Everything was part of the game. RNO: And on the other side, what would you do differently game-wise? Russell: I would have withheld a lot of the information that I knew instead of being so open. RNO: As an MMA fighter, what drew you to Big Brother as opposed to The Ultimate Fighter? Russell: The fact that this was psychological competition and something that I viewed as an ongoing chess match as opposed to a boxing match or fighting. RNO: What will you take away from this whole experience? Russell: You never know what you are made of until your back is up against the wall. RNO: Thanks again, Russell!
