So You Think You Can Dance Canada 2, September 30: Ten Becomes Eightby Brian Towers -- 10/01/2009
View Printable version of this article In this week’s performance episode, the top 10 dancers were re-formed into five new teams. Voters cast their votes not for teams of two, but for individuals. For me, the highlight was the saucy, swivel-hipped samba from Emanuel and Tara-Jean. You can read my version of things here. The group number leads off the show. It’s a contemporary number danced to Adele’s “Hometown Glory.” Maybe I’m obtuse, but if there’s a story being told, I can’t pick it up. Series host Leah Miller comes on camera to tell us that Stacey Tookey is the choreographer of the group number. She brings Stacey up from the audience for kudos. Leah then introduces principal judges Jean Marc Genereux and Tré Armstrong, and their traditional assistants, Blake McGrath and Luther Brown. Leah moves to the results. She explains that the bottom two vote-getters will dance tonight, although the identity of those about to be eliminated is predetermined by the vote totals and whatever they do tonight cannot affect those results. The hope is that we are so impressed by their effort that we remember it and vote for them next week. And once again, “over one million” votes were cast. Leah calls for the five females to join her at centre stage, then and calls for video of their performances from last night. Amy is addressed first. She is in the bottom two. Kim will be dancing next week. Tara Jean is in the top eight. This leaves Melanie and Jayne Rae. Who’s in the bottom? It’s Jayme Rae… who is safe. Melanie is in the bottom two. Leah brings the men to centre stage, to repeat the process for them. First up is Everett, and he is safe. However, Cody is not, and is at risk of elimination. Vincent is in the top eight. This leaves Austin and Emanuel. Emanuel… is safe, and Austin will be dancing his solo in a few minutes. The women dance off first this week. Both ladies dance contemporary numbers. Amy is first. She’s smoother than last night, I think. Melanie does all right too – as expected, it’s just a little more powerful. I’m not so sure there’s a whole lot to choose between the two performances. The men dance next. Cody moves well in his usual style of smooth hip-hop. I think I’m starting to get Cody. By comparison, although Austin usually dances in an athletic contemporary style, this time he surprises us with a sharp popping routine. I like it! Leah will be reading the results tonight, but she will ask the judges for comment before she does so. Ladies first! Jean Marc tells both that they are amazing dancers, and he’s proud of them. Leah delivers the news… Amy is going home, and Melanie is moving on. We see video of Amy’s experience, and back live, Amy thanks everyone who supported her, and thanks the show for the opportunity. She’s looking forward to having fun on the tour. Attention shifts to the men. Tré tells both they are strong dancers with their careers ahead of them. Leah opens the envelope to report that Austin is eliminated, and Cody gets another week. Austin says it’s been a roller coaster ride and thanks his fans, the show, and the other dancers. His highlight package is run. Leah calls for final kudos for Amy and Austin, pimps the tour, Stacey Tookey, the top eight, and we’re done! Wrapping Up I did well this week as far as predicting results goes. The three names I picked were in the bottom, and I nailed the two who were leaving. I think Cody’s at great risk next week, but it’s going to get tough after that. Who do you like? Let me know your thoughts at the address below! Now you can follow RealityNewsOnline on Twitter!
