So You Think You Can Dance Canada 2, October 14: We Have Our Finalists!by Brian Towers -- 10/15/2009
View Printable version of this article In this week’s Performance episode, the top six dancers danced hard and danced well. For me, the highlight was the Stacey Tookey-designed contemporary number danced by Vincent and Tara-Jean. You can read my version of all the action here. Series host Leah Miller starts the final elimination process off by telling us that “close to two million votes” were cast last night. Next is the disco group number from judge Tré Armstrong Leah threatened us with last night. It’s actually not as horrific as I feared, but I doubt I’ll be downloading it. They dance to “Turn The Beat Around,” which just happens to be the title of a movie airing on CTV later this year for which Tré is the choreographer. I love a good coincidence! Leah introduces the judges, which this week includes Mary Murphy and Rex Harrington. She further tells us that everyone will perform a solo dance tonight. That means there’s no bottom two. Leah takes a break to pimp the upcoming audition tour for Season 3. Back on topic, she brings out the female dancers. Jayme Rae is first. The dance is strong, and she moves well. I did notice the side of her pants are missing. She admits to Leah that she is nervous tonight. Melanie follows with a performance that seems familiar, but features a nice leap. Then, Tara-Jean performs. TJ is bigger, faster, and goes higher than the other two. Vincent leads off for the men. He’s good, and shows originality. Everett follows with a tap to an “Oh Canada” variant. Time is lost accessing his shoes, though. Emanuel performs to Bowie’s “Let’s Dance.” It’s quite good too, with some ballet footwork and only one land-based spin. Leah moves right to the results, calling the girls to centre stage to view the usual video highlights of their performances from last night. Leah then asks Jean Marc if he’d like to address the top three girls. After initially saying he’s not usually at a loss for words, he finds a few hundred to say that all deserve to be Canada’s favourite dancer. He ends, saying, “All my love goes with you.” Leah’s message is crisp and short – “Melanie you are not… one of our top and final four.” Jayme Rae and Tara Jean are in the final four! Melanie says she couldn’t ask for a greater experience and she’ll take what she’s learned forward with her. Her funeral video is run. Melanie puts on a brave (if slightly damp) face. Next, Leah brings the men to centre stage, to repeat the process for them. A weepy Tré wishes them good luck. After trying some fake-out word phrasing, Vincent learns he is the first male into the top four. Everett is safe, too… it’s Emanuel who is eliminated. Leah is starting to get weepy as she asks for his thoughts. He admits he didn’t think he’d get this far and knows he didn’t get there alone. Man, has this man ever matured over the last year! We see video of Emanuel’s journey, and we’re pretty much done. Now rushing, Leah pimps the tour and Season 3, thanks the judges, calls for kudos to the top four, and reminds us to watch next Tuesday. Finals, baby! Playoff dancing! Wrapping Up I’m ready to make a pick to win: TJ. Let me know your thoughts at the address below! Now you can follow RealityNewsOnline on Twitter!
