Project Runway 6, Episode 11: Two of a Kindby Betsy Wasser -- 10/30/2009
View Printable version of this article Previously on Project Runway, the designers put together outfits inspired by Michael Kors’ favorite places around the world. Well, everybody but Nicolas did, anyway. Nicolas put together an outfit that had nothing to do with the challenge, and despite the suckiness of Christopher and Logan, got the boot. Irina continued to back up her bitchiness with impressive skills and won the challenge. Who will go next? It’s a toss-up between Christopher and Logan. Of the two, Christopher is totally melting down, losing confidence, and thinking waaaay too hard about what the judges think. He’s doomed. Logan and Christopher note that there are only six designers left – and only two men. Logan says that this close to the end, they all need to step out of their comfort zones. That’s a good idea, in that he seems to be comfortable with bad or mediocre designs. “Good” would be out of his comfort zone. Christopher says he’s got to get the judges to understand him. He’s flummoxed by the fact that he was doing so well in the beginning and now they don’t like his work. I’m flummoxed by the fact that he isn’t designing good stuff anymore. And see? He’s freaking out. In the women’s apartment, Irina says it’s great that there are so few men left. She thinks it’s wrong that the fashion industry is so dominated by men when women should know more about dressing a woman’s body. In an interview, Althea says that the best designers left are herself, Irina, and Carol Hannah. She thinks Logan and Christopher aren’t up to snuff, nor is Gordana. Gordana says that it’s time to show imagination. Carol Hannah wants to start making more than dresses. Heidi has all of the designers face away from the runway. Christopher says it’s horrifying. Heidi has them all turn around, and they see the winning looks on stage. Carol Hannah hopes they don’t have to cut them up. Heidi says they’ve proven themselves with these looks, and now the challenge is to create a companion piece to enhance their best look. Logan says it’s really tough because his dress was not a winning look. Still, he thinks it’s a chance for him to prove something. Poor dude has yet to win a challenge. Irina thinks that this challenge will bring to light where the real talent is and where people have gotten lucky. She thinks that a few of the people there should have gone home already. Tim give the designers 30 minutes to sketch. They’ll have $100 at Mood and until midnight to finish their looks. Althea reminds us that her winning look has a paper bag waist and a short skirt. She wants to put the same waist on a pair of pants. The jacket of the first look is menswear. She wants to create a big version of it because she loves playing with volume. Irina is happy to be working with her Aspen look from last challenge. She loves the challenge because creating a complimentary look is similar to building a collection. Gordana says that her dress is edgy, so she wants to do a blazer and pants. Christopher says that he needs to take his own inspiration to the next level. He wants to make a gown, a longer version of his original. As the designers shop at Mood, a voiceover from Logan describes his inspiration. He’s going to take the zippers from his original and multiply it- by buying 40 zippers. That should be interesting. Christopher starts looking for the metallic satin he used before, but decides to use the same fabric in silver: 30 yards of it. “I’m going to go huge,” he says. Irina finds some fabric she loves and decides to make a dress. Carol Hannah opts to avoid sequins and feathers. She wants to connect her new look to it, but not repeat it. Tim asks her what will sustain her through the day. He tells her to take some risks and be creative, but to stay in her comfort zone so that she’s successful. In the workroom, Carol Hannah admits that she doesn’t quite have a plan yet. She lays out her fabric to ponder it. Irina is going to place the print of her fabric in a way that would be flattering to a woman’s body. Her second look is more “clean and polished.” Althea starts with her pants because they’ll be a lot of work. Logan says they look like Malvin’s chicken pants. She’s not appreciating that. Gordana notes that everyone is more tense. They are so close to the top three that everyone is more careful and more nervous. Ooh, Twilight: New Moon preview. I am Team Jacob, so I’m looking forward to this. Christopher says that the pressure is on, and with only six people left, the odds are not good. Logan thinks his chances to get to Bryant Park are good because he’s showing a different point of view. He thinks that because he’ll go out and work on his car, then make a dress, he has something unique to offer. Dude, you’re straight; we get it. Gordana says it’s great to be in the top six “especially with my humble beginnings.” She is originally from Bosnia. Her parents are farmers, and to have made it where she is is unbelievable. Carol Hannah says that she’s not quite committed to her look yet. Christopher says this is the time for the judges to see their personalities. He thinks his will look like a Christopher piece. Logan scoffs that Christopher has done the volume thing too many times. He thinks the fabric looks cheap to him. 1 2 3 Next-->View Printable version of this article |
