The Amazing Race 15: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, Episode 6 – Bad Day/Worse Day
by David Bloomberg
-- 11/04/2009
For most of this episode of The Amazing Race, it seemed like Brian & Ericka (right) would be easily eliminated after having a really bad day. But then the poker ladies had an even worse day. But even with all the bad moments, there was plenty of good to discuss as well. Some people even had fun on this leg!
I’ve got to hand it to Meghan & Cheyne – everybody caught up to them at the airport, but they immediately took the lead once again. Of course, they weren’t the best golfers, thus impacting on their ability to stay in the lead, but it showed that they are a real threat to win it all.
Sam was smart to work with Meghan on the Roadblock to get the bells counted quickly and accurately. The brothers have used alliances before to advance themselves and it’s always worked to their advantage so far.
Sam also then told Tiffany the specific number of bells, making things very easy for her. As Sam said – and as the brothers noted last week – the poker players are a team they believe they can beat, so it made sense to try to keep them around at the expense of a stronger team. Plus, of course, there was the hope that the ladies will repay this sort of kindness at a later date. It’s all moot now, but it was still good thinking on Sam’s part.
The Harlem Globetrotters continued to have fun on the race, making the Farmer’s Dance task quite an enjoyable one for everybody to watch!
I have to hand it to Brian & Ericka – even after falling way behind and reading the clue wrong, they never gave up. Ericka whined and bitched and moaned, but they didn’t give up – and it paid off for them when the poker players had an even worse day than they did!
My favorite teams right now: The Harlem Globetrotters and the brothers. Honestly, though, the only team I particularly dislike is Brian & Ericka.
The best quote of the night was Sam & Dan, responding to Phil’s question about whether they like dressing up: “We’re not that kind of gay guys.” Ha!
The Bad
Brian couldn’t figure out how to put the car in gear? Really? C’mon, that should be something that every racer knows how to do.
Ericka couldn’t count to 62 when everybody else got it? Really? Did she never watch Sesame Street?
Playing Farmer’s Golf in cold, wet long-johns? Brrr.
When will racers learn to read the whole clue?! Gary & Matt wasted time by going to Farmer’s Dance and not realizing until they had started learning the moves that they were also going to have to eat the salted fish. Mind you, I don’t think they should have switched just because they had to eat some fish, but that’s not really the point here.
Even worse was Brian & Ericka not reading the important part of the clue that said to ride the bikes instead of walking. I was going to say this was just not their day… until we saw what happened to Tiffany & Maria.
I’ve got to say, Tiffany & Maria’s inability to ring the bell with the hammer isn’t going to help those who argue that poker is a sport. That was just pa-the-tic.
Ditto for their Farmer’s Golf play.
And then they went back to try to ring the bell even when they knew they couldn’t? That made no sense. All they did was tire themselves out to the point that they were essentially useless when they went back again to the golfing! Horrible, horrible decisions.
The “Bad” quote of the night was from Ericka, who said, “It seems like this should be really easy.” Yup, it does. And it should have been.
The Ugly
There’s no crying at the poker table, and there shouldn’t have been any when the poker players couldn’t ring the bell at Farmer’s Dance. They have both won and lost plenty of money at the poker tables, taking bad beats when they were ahead, etc. Not being able to complete these tasks should not have been a crying affair. And, of course, that doesn’t even address how they couldn’t even swing the hammer the right way.
