"I’m Opinionated, And In Retrospect, I Probably Should Have Censored Myself" – RealityNewsOnline’s Exclusive Interview with America's Next Top Model 13’s Erin!

by Phil Kural -- 11/16/2009
Erin (right) made it all the way to the final four this season on America’s Next Top Model, despite being in the bottom two for the past three weeks, but was finally given the axe when the judges felt that her potential had run out. What does Erin think about the way she was edited and the judges’ comments towards her? Well, you’ll just have to click here to find out!

This whole season, I was so on the fence about Erin. For the first half of the competition, I barely even knew she existed. Then, all of a sudden, she busted out as the villain for the second half of the season. I think it’s because Bianca was given the axe so early that they needed someone else to play that role, and it was bestowed on Erin. As usual, I had a chance to chat with Erin, and she came off very bubbly and fun – not what I expected. I think this is one of those times where the wrong edit really was assigned, and they capitalized on her youth. Read on to see what I mean.

RealityNewsOnline: Hey Erin, thanks for taking time out of your day to chat with me. How much of previous seasons had you watched and what factored into your decision to apply?

Erin: I’ve watched all the seasons, not in order though, since when I got back from my season I had watched 10 and 11. But, I don’t think watching the show [made me want] to try out for it. The opportunity was sort of presented to me, and they were featuring shorter girls, so that kind of prompted me to try out. I never really thought of it before then since I’m so short, and I just so happened to turn 18 right when casting started, and I was on spring break. I tried out, and made the cut!

RNO: Let’s get the obvious question out of the way. You were in the bottom three times leading into this past episode. Did you know your goose was cooked?

Erin: I had not given up hope that I would make it to the final two. I’m realistic though, and I knew that being in the bottom two three times in a row was going to be a huge thing against me. That’s a record by the way! I didn’t think that I would make it due to being in the bottom two so many times in a row, but I still went into my final shoot with confidence that, by a long shot, I may be able to pull it off. I would have liked to have made it, but its okay that I didn’t, since I understand why the other two girls DID make it.

RNO: The judges continually said you started out great, but faltered towards the end of the competition. At what point do you think things started to turn for you?

Erin: Definitely the Cover Girl commercial is where I started tanking. It was awful, and I got so frustrated during the taping that I lost my motivation. I could feel it making me terrible and I didn’t want to talk about make up at that point. After I lost the fun I was having in the competition is when I started doing terrible. It’s funny, since I went into the final shoot just wanting to have fun, which is what I did, and the judges loved the photo!

RNO: It’s no secret that the other girls had pretty strong feelings towards you. Were you surprised by any of the comments made?

Erin: I don’t think I was surprised since we were forced to be together for so long, and we never got a break from one another. We all said bad things at some point, and it’s important to show how bad you want to win, so because of that, I was labeled as the bitch. I think I had the most reason to be labeled that way though, since I was young, so they could play the immature card. I was competitive too, so they could also play the arrogant and overconfident card. I mean, Nicole had the whole quiet, introspective thing going. Jen is just happy and loud all the time so she wasn’t going to be pegged as the bitch, and Laura is just the girl that everyone loves – she’s so sweet!

RNO: What about yourself? You weren’t exactly easy on the other girls either. Do you regret any of the comments you made during the personal interviews?

Erin: I think at the time I didn’t think about it, and I didn’t sensor myself when filming. I’m opinionated, and in retrospect I probably should have censored myself and not been so open about my feelings. Nicole censored herself a lot because she was aware that it was a TV show and everything would come out that we said. I’m a loud person, and I did say everything that came into my head. Maybe that was my mistake.

RNO: In the bottom two with Rae, Brittany, or Sundai, did you feel like you were going home at any point?

Erin: I was 98% sure that I was going home the week of the Cover Girl commercial. It just went so terribly that I figured there was no way I wasn’t going home that week. When I was in the bottom two with Brittany, I thought I was definitely going home since it was my second time in row being in the bottom two, and she hadn’t been for a very long time. With Sundai, I half thought I was going home at that point. I mean, I figured they had kept me over two other girls, so they knew that I had potential, and they saw something in me. Plus, I knew that I started out way stronger than Sundai, and although I was inconsistent at that point, I knew my body of work was better, so I was banking on that.
