America’s Next Top Model 14: First Impressions of the Girls

It’s time for Cycle 14 of America’s Next Top Model to begin, so we have a whole new group of girls who are vying for the title. Does anyone stand out right from the beginning? Who does Phil think doesn’t have a shot in the world? Oh, and who lists her occupation as “living?” It’s all right here!
I have to say – I’m so excited! It’s a been a little while, but I’m finally back to recapping my baby, America’s Next Top Model. Actually, ANTM is one of the first shows I ever recapped here at RNO, and although I continued to do interviews even after I stopped recapping, it just wasn’t the same since I feel like I never had the opportunity to mouth off about those girls I love and the ones I don’t really care for. Well, I’m back!
Okay, enough gushing. It’s time to get to business. A new cycle of ANTM starts on March 10th, and this cycle we have 13 girls who are in line for the title. Once I saw a list of names of the girls this season, I could already tell that I was going to be a little confused. Of all the cycles of this show, this has got to be the most “unique name” cast ever. You will see what I mean in a moment. Let’s get started, as I introduce you to the girls and give you my take on where I think they are going to land in the competition.
Alasia: Alasia is an 18-year-old student from Marietta, GA. The first thing I want to know is who in the world picked these outfits for the girls to do their preliminary photos in? They look like they are straight off the set of the Olivia Newton John video for “Physical.” I feel old for even knowing that.
Either way, I’m not getting the best of vibes from Alasia. It’s rough to judge off of one photo and limited information, but we all know how I like to judge so I’m going to do it anyway. Her pose screams: “I have an attitude!” Nothing wrong with that, as long as she can keep it in check. Alasia is young, though, so she probably won’t know how to control herself. I’m looking at her to be one of the first few girls sent packing. Sorry, but I don’t see anything special yet.
Alexandra: A 21-year-old student from Kerrville, TX., Alexandra sort of looks to me like Sarah from Cycle 9 – right down to being a little plus-sized. If you’ll remember, the judges actually started coming down on Sarah, saying that they felt like she was losing weight and they weren’t sure if she was a regular-sized model or plus-sized. That’s what I think about Alexandra so far – I’m not sure where she is going to fit into the competition. She looks like she has a little more weight than the other girls, but that could simply be the angle at which her photo was taken. That being said, it’s not a flattering photo at all, and the pose isn’t helping. She looks scared as crap! Probably another early out.
Angelea: Okay, now we are talking! Angelea is a 23-year-old phone service operator from Buffalo, NY. Just by looking at her pre-show photo, this girl is exuding confidence. Her pose and look are strong, and she has a face of a model. I’m not reading from the photo that she has an attitude, and if she does, it’s very well hidden. That will definitely work to her advantage. Going into this cycle, I have a feeling she may just end up being a favorite of mine. If she can work the camera as well in the competition as she has in her pre-show photo, I think she’ll definitely make it past the halfway point, maybe even to the end!
Anslee: I love her name. Anslee is a unique name, and I can’t say that I’ve ever met someone with it. A 21-year-old bartender from Dacula, GA, Anslee has a weird resemblance to Catie from Cycle 2. Does anyone even remember Catie? She was a big crybaby. It’s a good reference, though, since I feel like Catie had a great look for the show, and definitely had some model features. Anslee has some great features, and I like that she already rocks the short hairstyle. I’m also impressed that her pre-show photo is straight on, since most times the girls are on an angle. This means that she’s confident enough to show face. Confidence is good – I think Anslee will definitely be around for a least the first five or six weeks.
Brenda: This must be the cycle of the clones. Brenda looks exactly like Mollie Sue from Cycle 6. Go look her up, I’ll wait. Okay, back? I know, right! Well, maybe not exactly, but there is definitely a resemblance.
Brenda is a 23-year-old administrative assistant from Houston, TX. Now, redheaded girls don’t typically have the best luck on this show, and since one just won the show last season, we already know that Brenda doesn’t have a shot in the world at winning unless they do the most dramatic makeover on her ever – which they won’t. I like Brenda’s look, and her pose is great. However, based off of statistics, she just has no chance. Brenda will probably be gone within the first four girls sent packing, and it’s a shame.
