My last analysis; sigh, I wish they had not had a two-episode season finale. I would have argued with proof. As it stands, with evidence.
Mary Elizabeth Merchant
A high priestess of Mind/Science. Romantically involved with Rusty, Jimmy, and Hayden. Still, no real evidence against her. No motive, or method, or opportunity. On the orders of DeBeck? Possible, but DeBeck would not have instructed her to kill him. Still a weak suspect.
Rev. Rusty Crandall
Part of the Mind/Science cult; indeed a high priest who wants control of it. Still no motive for the Flint or Blodgett killings. For DeBeck, yes, if he wants to take over as head of the cult. Still, a weak suspect.
Prudence Connor
A blackmailer, yes. Motive for Nate Flint, yes. But the motive was for blackmail and money. Blackmailers want their targets alive, for future gifts. No reason for her to kill the goose that laid golden eggs. Weak suspect.
Jimmy Tinker
He has now traded his alibi from one of love of Abby to one of blackmail in cahoots with Prudence Connor. As with her, a great reason to keep Nate Flint alive, for future soaking of money. Not a motive to kill.
G.D. I crossed off the list long ago. Unstable; not the kind to be a serial controlled killer. He was killed now. I think his killing was incidental. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time and paid for it with his life.
General Hayden DeBeck
Leader of the Mind/Science group and in control of the sweepers. He knows all. But he was killed. Because he was part of the original conspiracy, along with Oscar and C.R. Flint. It's a revenge motive. DeBeck was willing to pay off Connor for her knowledge. Still, the killer got to him first.
The killer clues have led to three people: C.R. Flint, Oscar Blodgett, and Hayden DeBeck. The rest point the finger to the Duchamps and the Burnt Man. The killer clearly blames the 1941 "miracle" fire on somebody, those somebodies being the Flints, the Blogdetts, and General DeBeck. Carmen was innocent, but yet a victim by her marriage. General DeBeck has been killed. Oscar Blodgett was murdered. Leita Rose-Blodgett was murdered as well. Why? Not because she was a part of the Arson and the Duchamps (and the Burnt Man) but because the killer had a private reason to kill her. G.D. knew too much; the killer caught him off guard at first, and then used a bang-stick on him – an unfortunate victim. Still, next is C.R. Flint, a person who can be linked to the arson of 1941. I predict he will either be murdered, or the investigators will guard him full time. I’m betting on murder. His murder will complete the cycle.
So we have a Duchamps by birth avenging the 1941 murders. Only two have a background for it; Frank and William. Frank is a better suspect, and has arranged things to put blame on William Lambert. I think Frank is a clever killer who will, if he gets away with it, move somewhere else long and far from Sunrise. Yes, C.R. Flint, General DeBeck, and Oscar Blodgett have much to answer for. Yes Leita Rose-Blodgett was guilty of revealing too much to Tate Kovick. General DeBeck paid for his crime against the Duchamps with the bang stick. G.D. was just probably in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I do not know how far I could have gone in MISTX. I did not know about it until a few weeks before it started. As it stands, I think I would be a great investigator. I deduce evidence, and I would hope I would either be respected for my analysis, but could be rejected by the team, and forced to play the killer’s game. I know I'd try to find people who thought like me and would have formed an alliance with them. What I would want is people who will do deductions and figure out evidence. I respected Kristen for beating the odds, but she had the wrong ideas. Jeff has the right idea, not ideas, but even if he has the right killer in mind, he needs evidence, such as motive. My own theory fits all the facts of the case. I am in debt to Lucian, who provided a reasonable, if (I believe) flawed background of the case. I saw the idea as the truth, and explained the problems in the case. Then, I put them in order, and knew why. If I am right, then C.R. Flint will be the final victim of the Sunrise Killer. And it was important to the Sunrise Killer to kill Carmen, Abby, and Nate before C.R. It is a strange motive, but one I suggested before I knew the truth. The Sunrise killer has ample motive to the deaths so far, but it is the delay of C.R. Flint killing that provided me with the final clue.
A word to the investigators: Protect C.R. Flint at all costs. The killer needs him dead. The killer needed him alive after Nate, Carmen, and Abby were dead. Ask him if he has made a will after Nate and company were killed. Ask if it isn't Ms. Larabee who inherits. And have Frank and Samantha investigated. Would they have married if Frank fathered Sam’s baby, and Tate divorced him? Ask Frank questions, from his affair with Samantha to his motive and opportunity to the killer. Ask for a DNA sample to match to the Burnt Man. Frank admits he was adopted; trace the records; find out if his bio-father was a Duchamps. Or his bio-mother; either way no problem.
