The Amazing Race 20: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, Episode 5 – Whoops, Wrong Castle!

Art & JJ may be dominating The Amazing Race, but another team dominated the ugliness this week – and it surprisingly wasn’t a team with a “Rachel” in it! Leaving the sniping aside, what were some of the best and worst moments this week? Let’s take a look!
Who would have thought we could go a whole episode without either Rachel team ending up in our Ugly section? Not me! (Un)Luckily, somebody picked up the slack in that regard. Let’s see who made our list of Good, Bad, and Ugly moments this week.
The Good
Congratulations again to Art & JJ – three legs in a row!
Even after the teams were bunched up, Art & JJ again just bulldozed right through this leg! They are a serious force to be reckoned with.
My initial thought, like so many of the teams, was that styling a guy’s beard would be the quicker Detour option as opposed to following a trail of gingerbread and creating a gingerbread house roof. Then again, those opting for gingerbread seemed to move along pretty quickly, from what we saw.
I like when the producers encompass something fun as a Speed Bump, like the yodeling this time – though I do wish they would make these take a little bit more time-consuming, since it is meant to be a penalty. Then again, listening to Mark & Bopper yodel was a penalty – for everyone else!
Hey, a new way to incorporate product placement – not just carrying around a roaming gnome, but using it to slide across the ice!
Hey, Joey Fitness & Danny are on The Amazing Race! We’ve seen so little of them (probably because they were just chugging along, not causing drama), it was nice to see some clips involving them this week.
Mark was an awesome gnome slider.
But even better was Brendon sliding on cow manure at the Pit Stop and landing on his butt! (And even if it wasn’t really manure that caused him to slip – I’m telling myself it was, because that’s just funnier.)
Nary & Jamie hit the nail on the head in saying maybe they could outrace Kerri & Stacy by following directions better!
The Bad
I wasn’t at all surprised that Big Brother Rachel went for the gingerbread option, since it involved a witch. I mean, professional courtesy and all that.
The snow could not have been making it any easier to follow the trail of gingerbread! Then again, it doesn’t seem like the teams really had any problems.
Kerri or Stacy (I never did figure out which was which) busted open her lip while celebrating. Considering the way they were talking about some of the other teams in last week’s Secret Scenes, I bet several of them would have liked to be the one to bust her lip!
Nary & Jamie and Dave & Rachel ended up in the wrong castle, going through a tour! Talk about taking the scenic route…
Several other teams made similar mistakes, but at least they didn’t get stuck on the tour!
Bopper had some real problems with all the physical activity in this leg – mostly running up stairs. I felt bad for the guy – he should really look into asthma medicines.
I think the judge at the sliding gnomes Roadblock was feeling generous when he told Nary she had finally hit the target, because it looked to me like she was still a hair away.
Nary & Jamie hit the nail on the head in saying maybe they could outrace Kerri & Stacy by following directions better! (Yeah, I know I already had this in the “Good” category – but what was good for one duo of ladies was definitely bad for the other!)
The Ugly
Ralph’s been married three times, none successful? Considering the way he was talking to Vanessa while they were walking to Sleeping Beauty’s Castle, why am I not surprised?
“Just stop talking and I won’t tell you to shut up!” – Vanessa responding to Ralph getting bitchy and continually harassing her, leading to her telling him to shut up (rightfully so!).
Vanessa correcting Ralph’s grammar (him saying he “could care less” and her pointing out, “couldn’t”): Priceless!
And yet somehow they managed to make it to the Pit Stop in third place…
