Project Runway 4, Episode 6: Candy Everybody Wantsby Betsy Wasser -- 01/03/2008
View Printable version of this article Hello, fellow Project Runway fans! It feels like a million years since the last episode aired. Isn’t it great to be back? Last episode, Jack left because of an illness and was replaced with recently aufed designer Chris. The challenge was to design an outfit for a woman who’d recently lost a lot of weight using her favorite outfit from her previous size. Christian designed a pair of jeans and a top that were, as he’d be happy to tell you, fierce. He won the challenge. Steven had a big challenge, which a wedding dress as his starting point and did not rise to the occasion, creating a hideous and depressing dress and getting the boot. Oh, and Ricky cried again. Caught up? Good! Kevin says it’s weird that his former roommate Steven is gone and that the competitors are dropping like flies. He says “It’s like my cubicle buddy is gone.” Aw, I get that. It’s hard when your cubicle buddy leaves. It’s like, who am I going to get coffee with now? The other guys are not so heartbroken. Christian says point blank, “I don’t care.” He says the dress wasn’t bad because of the raw materials, but that it was straight-up ugly. As usual, the boy lacks tact, but I can’t disagree with him on this one. Sweet P and Jillian talk about what the next challenge might entail. Kit notes that they’re halfway to the end. Heidi greets the designers on the runway holding the button bag. All of the designers will have the opportunity to pick new models. Two of the models will be out. Christian gets first pick and goes with Leigh. He says she’s one of the best. He whispers an apology to his old model. Sweet P is elated not to be picked last and happily chooses her old model. Ricky goes last, tells the models they’re all beautiful, and picks Elisa. Ashley and Christina are out. Kisses all around, and they leave. Heidi tells the designers that they’ll be going on a field trip the next day. It should be noted that Heidi is wearing a pair of red heels that are incredibly freaking hot. The next morning at 6:00, Tim arrives at the apartments to wake everybody up. Kit looks like utter hell in the morning. Her hair is more all over the place than usual, and she says she was traumatized to be in her jimmies in front of him. Kevin has his toothbrush in his mouth when Tim arrives, but Victorya looks a tad more composed. When Tim comes to the next apartment, Chris is disappointed that Tim is no longer in footy pajamas. Tim asks everyone to dress quickly and meet him in the lobby. Chris describes the scene as “tenseville.” Jillian is wearing rainbow suspenders like Mork From Ork – awesome. Rami says everyone’s trying to figure out where they’re going. Tim offers no hints. They wind up in Times Square – and the Hershey store. Elisa is very happy. “How could you not want to make things with that kind of magic, magic, magic?” she asks. Christian, of course, sees it differently. He rolls his eyes at the prospect of making things out of candy. Something tells me the Oompa Loompas will come for Christian first. In the store, Tim lays out the challenge. The designers will be using items from the store as raw materials for their designs. There are bags of candy, but also stuffed animals and pillows. There is no budget, but they do only have five minutes to grab what they need – and they only have one day to complete their look. There’s mad scurrying to get what they need. Kit loves filling her shopping bags with all the candy she can get. Elisa plans on taking her stuff apart and figuring it all out later. Christian grabs the peanut butter cups, planning to use the brown interior wrappers. Chris says he’s learned to avoid using food, so he took a ton of pillows. Jillian grabs a bunch of Twizzlers. Victorya says the whole thing was a blur. With that, time is up. Jillian can’t even carry her bags. The designers return to the workroom with 13 hours to go and start eating candy. Kit says everyone’s having a lot of fun. She removes the “Kit” from a Kit-Kat and sticks it to her shirt, which is adorable. There’s a lot of giggling, but everyone gets a little more serious when Tim reminds them they only have until midnight. Jillian realizes she’s the only person who elected to use edible items in their design. She wants to sculpt the Twizzlers into a bodice and thinks they’ll look great. Sweet P is planning a silver bodice, then a belt made out of broken pots. The bottom of the dress will be blue teddy bear felt and brown pillows, which she’ll turn into a print. I have my doubts about this one, you guys. And wouldn’t it be ironic if Sweet P were eliminated during a candy challenge? Christian says he works “instantaneously” and that’s fine because “I have a very strong style.” Quite the modest one, our Christian. He had to unwrap over 1,000 peanut butter cups. I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to finish this recap without eating chocolate. He’s gluing wrappers to make a dress. Ricky’s got a silver bubble skirt that looks super cute. Chris is excited about his dress. He says that real food is just not practical to use. Sure enough, Jillian is having trouble. Rami says he chooses not to do time-consuming things. Elisa says she wants to make a “fairy-tale-esque thing” for her daughter. She says that her daughter insisted that she try out for the show. Years ago, she had the opportunity to launch a t-shirt line in London. On her last day there, she was hit by a car. She had a head injury, a broken neck, and was laid up for months. She sees this as an opportunity to reclaim the life she could have had. Kevin is trying to make wearable items. Victorya is amazed at Christian’s progress. Ricky’s less impressed, saying that Christian is too caught up in his own ego. He walks around the room criticizing everyone else’s designs. Kevin tells us that in every single interview, he feels compelled to mention is desire to murder Christian. 1 2 3 Next-->View Printable version of this article |
