Surviving the Early Showby Peggy Keller -- 07/10/2002
View Printable version of this article It’s the morning after Ethan was voted the winner of Survivor: Africa. Of course, all of the players appear on The Early Show. Here’s a recap. It was mostly just question and answer, so there isn’t necessarily a good segue between each topic. The Final Four were brought out first. They were asked if the mountain scene the best part of the time you were in the game? All agreed that, yes, there was great solitude, you could see the animals, there was quiet reflection there. Ethan was clean shaven, incidentally (we know all the women out there would be interested in that). Bryant asked if there was any remorse over losing? Any woulda shoulda shoulda's? None, they are all close friends, that is invaluable itself. In a jury vote between Lex and Kim Johnson, they say Lex would have won. Tom, Frank (doubtful I think), Ethan, Brandon all vote for Lex; Kim P., Kelly, Teresa vote for Kim Johnson. Ethan was nervous when Kim addressed jury because she was so elegant and emotional. During the last Immunity Challenge, Lex was "practically hallucinating," had horrible cramps, was dehydrated, when he came home he was in bed three weeks. Burnett's tent is same size as rest of crew. In the first half hour on e-Bay, $70,000 was raised – $33,000 on the immunity idol alone. The auction will still be going on for several days. Ethan was presented with his check on the morning show. When this was done, Tom said "I owe that much.” Oh, and Tom is not mad at Bryant for dissing him. When the others are out, we see that Jessie is wearing a very provocative top, held closed with only one middle button (hey, we gave the women some info on Ethan, so we had to give the guys something in return). Brandon sold his thong to someone for $2,000 last night and they went into the ladies bathroom to trade it. A security guard came in and yelled at them for smoking – not for a half-naked man being in woman's bathroom! Brandon said, "Only in L.A.!" And they all mocked Clarence's CEO to basement statement of the previous night in the reunion (where he said he had taken a leadership role but that ended with the bean incident). Tom would do commercials (who would have him?!), Brandon has been approached by gay porn companies and will do that if nothing else comes along. Kim P. is going back to Africa. Silas still wants to act. Kim J. thinks Victoria’s Secret would not hire her to model and she does not want to do soaps. Brandon talks to Kelly and Kim daily. The best story for why she was gone (remember, they had to keep it a secret) came from Diane, who told everyone she was arrested for DWI and she slapped a cop in Portland, Oregon and ended up in Jail for a month. Everyone believed her. They are all committed to do a long-term AIDS project. OK, so there wasn’t much excitement – other than Brandon being half-naked and saying he’d do gay porn – but there you have it!
