Finally! An episode of Making the Band that’s actually about the members of the band! This week the boys have a few days off and we follow Ashley and Trevor around to see what they choose to do with their precious time away from O-Town.

But before their break, Ashley gets chewed a new A-hole by the rest of the guys for not telling the tech guys that he’s been having problems with his ear monitors - which results in him singing badly on numerous occasions and in numerous shows. After the row, Ashley meets his acting agent, Chuck Jones, backstage to talk about auditioning for some movies in Hollywood on his break. Ashley is excited since, “O-Town is my life, but acting is always something I’ve wanted to pursue.” Now, I’ve worked in the entertainment industry for over 10 years, and I can definitely see Ashley working on a soap opera or hosting an MTV show after O-Town, but his agent is an idiot. He sends him all over town, - and to some pretty respectable places (Paramount, Linda Obst Productions, etc.), but he has no headshot (duh) or any time to actually get cast in any projects (double duh). That makes Ashley look like an idiot and a waste of their time. Anyway, Elizabeth Hooper at Linda Obst sets Ashley straight by saying, “You want an opportunity? I have a line outside the door that wants an opportunity. You have to show me you’re taking yourself seriously.” I hate agents.

As for Trevor, he’s off to the other coast to New York to spend time with his Dad. He is feeling the need to be around people that make him feel like home. He and his Dad go to the place where his Dad grew up and to his church, where Trevor finds out his Dad used to sing. They have a great bonding time together and Trevor gets his batteries recharged and he begins to appreciate everything he has again. Then he surprises his overwhelmed Dad with Knicks’ tickets, “Right behind Spike Lee.” Awww!

Back in L.A., Ashley’s agent (blah) calls and tells him he’s been really impressing people around town and he’s got a part for him. He suggests Ashley go to acting coach, Howard Fine, and get some advice on how to perform the scene. With Howard, Ashley goes through some acting techniques to improve his performance. Then the coach suggests he come back later and do the scene with another one of his students. Ashley is overwhelmed and excited, and this would all be great news – if he wasn’t already committed to O-Town. Later, Ashley does the scene with a student and it’s really good.

The next day, his agent finally gets a clue, and realizes that Ashley shouldn’t even audition for the part unless he’s sure he can get the five weeks off to shoot it. But when Ashley calls his manager, Mike, to see if he can get more time off in Hollywood, he says he needs him back with the band right away. Back in Orlando with the band, it becomes evident that there was no way that Ashley can do the part and be in O-Town, so he decides to stick with the group.

But if you change your mind, Ashley, I’m working on a short film and need an actor…

NEXT WEEK: Ashley gets lost …
