Dancing With the Stars 6, April 28: Hot, Hot, Hot

by Jill Jones -- 04/29/2008
Tonight’s show features two dances from each of the couples. But that’s not the exciting part. Read on to find out who needs to be stiff, who causes global warming, and who gets injured on live television.

Last week on Dancing with the Stars, Marlee & Fabian were eliminated from the competition. Tonight, the remaining couples perform two dances each. It’s as if the season has started all over again!

Tom and Samantha welcome us to the program. That’s about all that happens.

Up first are Marissa & Tony. Marissa tells us she can’t believe she’s still in the competition. Tony wants Marissa to bring sexy back.

They’re doing the tango to an instrumental piece. Marissa’s moves are a mix between simple and intricate; however, they flow together well and look great. Tony has choreographed an entertaining routine and Marissa performs it well.

Len tells the couple this was its best dance. I smell a goober, so cover your ears. Bruno says, “Great job.” Carrie Ann calls the performance wonderful.

All three of the judges give the couple a nine. Marissa & Tony have 27 points for their first dance. What? No goober? I’m surprised.

The next couple to perform is Cheryl & Cristián. Cheryl seems to have an attitude during rehearsals. We meet Cristián’s adorable daughter.

They are dancing the Viennese waltz to “I’ll Make Love to You.” (Not me personally.) Cristián seems stiff. I guess I just don’t get his style. He spins Cheryl at the end of the routine. Did her feet stay on the ground?

Bruno refers to Cristián as South America’s Clark Gable. Carrie Ann asks to see some extra flair from Cristián. Len says he wanted to see more waltzing.

Carrie Ann and Len give the dance an eight while Bruno gives it a nine. The couple has 25 points so far. Hmmmmm, Cheryl is showing some side boobage. Interesting.

Up now are Kristi & Mark. Kristi says she was thrilled to get a triple goober. Kristi takes Mark ice-skating; she shows him some moves she had to practice over and over again while in training.

They are dancing the Viennese waltz to “I’m With You.” The couple uses an umbrella as a prop. I wonder if Len will pop over the prop. Kristi’s movements are beautiful. The entire dance is surreal.

Carrie Ann says the prop worked; she felt the emotion. She also calls Kristi out on her turns. Len didn’t like the start of the routine with the umbrella. Ha! He then tells Bruno his hot air is causing global warming. Bruno says it all worked. Snap.

Carrie Ann and Len award the dance with a nine; Bruno gives it an eight. Kristi & Mark have 26 points. I’m not sure what Len is watching tonight, but oh, well.

The next couple ready with its first dance tonight is Karina & Mario. Mario is down during practice because of being in the bottom two last week. He also learns choreography for a new video.

They’re performing the foxtrot to “I’m Your Man.” Mario looks sharp while Karina appears to be wearing a curtain. The dance is smooth and energetic. There are a few slight missteps, but Mario manages to pull it off.

Len calls Mario a role model for other people his age. Bruno says Mario sometimes lacks the control that the foxtrot requires. Carrie Ann wants Mario to be stiffer. Tom giggles.

All of the judges give Mario & Karina an eight. They currently have 24 points.

The next couple set to take to the dance floor is Shannon & Derek. Derek says he has to put his friendship with Shannon aside this week and be tough. Shannon promises to take her aggression out on the dance.

They’re doing the tango to an instrumental piece. I like the intensity shown at the start of the routine, but I don’t like how the movements toward the end of the dance seem to be off from the music.

Bruno calls the tango a bitch and says Shannon did a great job. Carrie Ann calls the dance Shannon’s best. Len says, “Well done.”

All of the judges give the dance a nine. Shannon & Derek have 27 points after their first dance.

Up next are Edyta & Jason. Jason says he’s going to bring football to the dance floor. He also says the show is changing his life. I hope my recaps are doing the same for him.

They’re dancing the quickstep to “The Dirty Boogie.” Jason begins by jumping off the stage and over Edyta. He also displays good form and hits his steps. But at the end, Jason takes the judges’ papers and throws them before doing a handstand and landing on top of Edyta. I’m not sure what that’s about.

Carrie Ann calls everything about the dance fantastic. Len says Jason should make it through to the finals with the routine he just performed. Bruno tells Jason his dance with Edyta was the dance of the night.

Carrie Ann and Bruno award the couple with a goober. Len gives it a nine. Edyta & Jason have 29 points.
