Dancing with the Stars 6, May 19: Dance Off!

Last week on Dancing with the Stars, Marissa & Tony were eliminated from the competition. With only three hours left in the season (Yes, I’m counting it down.), it’s now or never for our remaining couples. Let’s see who is and is not worthy of our votes.

Tom and Samantha open the show, and introduce the dancing duos. Edyta is very sparkly this evening. Tom makes reference to her spray tan.

Next, Tom and Samantha tell us that the couples will perform a cha cha cha dance-off and a freestyle routine.

The producers show us clips of practice. Cristián can’t slide between Cheryl’s legs. Jason says Kristi is perfect. I finally put down the bag of sweet potato chips I’ve been devouring.

The dancing tonight is to “Dancing on the Ceiling.” The first couple to take on the cha cha cha is Cheryl & Cristián. They do an interesting slide at the end of the routine; it involves Cristián running with Cheryl and then, well, sliding. It’s interesting, but overall, the routine is a bit dull. Cristián moves his hips extremely well though, but I don’t think that should be enough to win the competition.

Edyta & Jason dance next. Jason is light on his feet, but some of the moves don’t feel like a cha cha cha. Also, at one point, he jumps right over Edyta’s head.

The final couple to dance the cha cha cha is Kristi & Mark. At the start of the routine, Kristi kisses Bruno on the lips. He’s caught off guard and the results are hysterical. As always, Kristi does an awesome job. Her moves are crisp and precise. In fact, my boyfriend says she’s the best female celebrity dancer ever to appear on the show. Wow! This is coming from a Stacy Keibler fan.

The routine ends with all three of the couples on the dance floor. Cristián and Jason lift Kristi over their heads. Fun!

Len says the dancing “got him going.” Bruno wipes Kristi’s lipstick from his mouth. Carrie Ann calls Kristi the winner.

Carrie Ann gives Cheryl & Cristián an eight, while Len and Bruno give them a nine. The couple has 26 points.

Next, all three of the judges give Edyta & Jason an eight for a total of 24 points. They also give Kristi & Mark all goobers for a triple goober or a 30.

The pace and flow of the show are really strange tonight.

Up first with their freestyle routine is Kristi & Mark. Kristi worries about hurting Mark’s shoulder. She also doesn’t want him to kick her in the mouth. Don’t ask. Julianne works with Kristi to help her with the routine. She should know a thing or two about dancing with Mark; she used to be his partner.

They’re dancing to “Working Day and Night.” They begin in their pajamas and robes, and quickly take them off. The routine is fast and furious. Kristi & Mark do all kinds of crazy moves and lifts. At the end, they finish lying on the floor as if they need a rest.

Bruno calls the dance an inspiring fusion of mambo and hip-hop. Carrie Ann tells Kristi she loved it. Len says the routine held his attention. Bruno is beyond happy that Len enjoyed the routine.

Once again, the judges give Kristi & Mark a triple goober. The couple has 60 points out of 60.

The next couple to perform is Edyta & Jason. Edyta is happy to finally make it to the finals. Jason drops her during practice several times. His wife and children stop by practice. Those are some cute kids.

They dance their free style routine to “Miami.” Jason busts a move and shows off his hip-hop side. He and Edyta also perform some impressive lifts. The dance is fun, but it isn’t as “clean” as Kristi’s. I have to give this couple props though; the dance ends with Edyta ripping off Jason’s shirt. Yikes!

Carrie Ann calls the ending nice. She’s also happy that Jason can get funky. Len appreciates the lifts and humor. He also mentions something about being at the beach in his thong. My ears! My beautiful ears! Bruno says that watching this couple is like watching centerfolds.

Samantha asks Jason a question backstage and then cuts him off. She then does the same thing to Edyta. Can we please replace her next season?

The judges are ready with their scores. They all give the dance a nine. Edyta & Jason receive 27 points for their freestyle routine.

The final couple to perform this evening is Cheryl & Cristián. Cristián promises to use the parts of his body that are working. He also hurts his arm during practice.

They’re dancing to a song I don’t know. At the start of the dance, the camera zooms in on Cristián’s butt shaking. Because of his injury, Cristián is obviously limited in what he can do. This definitely has a negative affect on the routine. It’s good, but it’s more like a routine that would be done during the season.

Len calls the dance fantastic, but says he has to take the other freestyle dances into consideration. Bruno says Cristián did well with one arm. Carrie Ann tells Cristián he is a winner in so many ways.

Carrie Ann and Bruno award the dance with a nine. Len gives it a more realistic eight. Cheryl & Cristián have 26 points.

Tom and Samantha review the night’s dances and the standings.

They also remind us that Usher will be performing tomorrow night and all of the season’s couples will return. Join me then as a new champion is crowned. I’ll bring enough sweet potato chips for everyone.
