When You Suck at Sucking Up, You're Fishing for a Boot, or Why Zoe Should Not Have Been Voted Outby Peggy Keller -- 07/10/2002
View Printable version of this article Zoe, Zoe Zoe, Before the game started, I wrote poetry to the possibility of who she was and what she could have been. Zoe was my pick to go the distance. Strong, able-bodied, professional fisherwoman. What a player! On paper she looked great. She must have thought that paper captured her better than film or video too, considering she was selling autographed copies of her very own calendar last week. In reality though, Zoe was just a ghost of what could have been. To read about why she was voted out, read Why Zoe Lost. It's understandable why Zoe would want to distance herself from the Rotu full-bloods. But she waited way too long and did such a poor job of being two-faced. Alliance switchers are not well treated in this game unless they look like Colby, and I am still not sure John, as creepy as he came across in his interviews and chats, is a bigger bitch than Jerri was. There was room for improvement, Zoe. Kathy is sooooo ripe for the picking right now, she is a woman without an alliance of two and Zoe might have been able to persuade her to go back into the Rotu Fold. Instead she burned her bridges by telling Tammy she did not like her. Zoe, Zoe, Zoe, Tammy is going to be on the jury, why would you alienate someone so severely? I will blame it on Maine. Zoe is a classic Yankee, thrifty with everything including words. Even Jeff Baby couldn't pull anything of meaning out of her at Tribal Council. But should Zoe have been voted off? No way! Although she is strong, Zoe has never really shown herself to be so strong that she is an individual threat, and with only a few immunity challenges left before the final four, it is not totally certain that she would be a bigger threat than Sean or Tammy or even Kathy – who gets smarter and more and more likable, at least to me, with every passing episode. Plus Zoe was a lousy liar and everyone knew it. Who better to have stick around than the person who has the axe in one hand and a bowl of cherries in the other? You would know exactly what was happening by simply asking her a question. In addition, Zoe having now pissed off Tammy and obviously Robert by jumping ship does not have close connections on the jury. No one really likes this person, except maybe Neleh, but even that seemed a little strained. Sean, who will also be a great pick to have next to you in that last vote, is more liked than Zoe at this point in the game. Plus, just maybe she would eventually get around to doing some of that famous fishing we all expected to see from her. Care for crab legs or lobster with your coconut shrimp? Zoe was a physical threat but almost every challenge has some brain work involved too, and if Pappy can beat her at gathering coconuts, how threatening was she? Zoe should have stayed. But someone had to be voted out – who should it have been? Tammy is the most obvious choice, as she is becoming very much the bitch herself, and a sore loser. Robert is a big baby and deserves nothing after the dismal way he swam in the reward challenge and swore to burn up all the wood. Whattsa matter Robert, lose your binky? Both of those would be an easy out. But there is a major problem that will become obvious in two or three weeks if things go as expected. Once Tammy and Robert go then the likeliest boot will be Kathy. I am already praying to Vee's Survivor God that Burnett was not too busy controlling Team Go's world in Eco-Challenge that he forgot to throw Kathy a bone when it comes down to this point to win immunity. Then we would have a game on our hands. Without it, we are faced with a final four of Sean, Vee, Neleh and Pappy. Sean, you want to hang onto as long as possible because, as many of you pointed out to me in email last week, who could be a better person to go against at jury? Neleh is just too darn likable to vote out, so that leaves Vee and Pappy. Of these two, Vee is the biggest threat. She is unpredictable, stronger than Kathy, Pappy, or Neleh and obviously thinks she has God on her side. So the smart move would to have broken the Vee/Sean duo and force Sean to pick someone else to ally with. There are still a lot of possibilities open, and at some point we should get to see what happens in a tie, and what happens when religion comes into play. Jeff Probst has said in interviews that four of the team members were religious and it played a role in the game. So the God Squad alliance of Sean, Vee, Pappy, and Neleh might be looking to oust all the non-believers. Maybe Zoe should have made Rosaries for them all instead of shell necklaces. Questions of the week: Does Sean seem to be endearing by getting so involved in the Marquesan party? Or does he come across as annoying and mocking? What will happen if The God Squad actually do make the final four? For all those of you who wrote me last week, if I did not respond it is because I have been having computer problems and I lost several emails when I was ISP hopping.
