Brother, Can You Spare a Vote? or Why Sean Should Not Have Been Voted Out

by Peggy Keller -- 07/10/2002
Usually, Peggy looks at why a person shouldn't have been voted out from that particular player's point of view. But this time, she explains why Sean shouldn't have gone by looking at it from the view of the person who booted him: Kathy.

Every day our Soliantu Survivors seem to eat the same thing: shellfish and coconut. Now, I have seen Vee and Kathy cut coconut, but I have never seen anyone but Kathy bring back the protein. Apparently, all that time that Sean was being lazy and then not being lazy, he never once gathered food from the sea. Think of all those times that Kathy was out there gathering shells. Think of all those moments where Sean could have followed her if he only got off his skinny ass and did a little more work. He would have had Kathy completely convinced that he was her go-to guy. Kathy wanted to trust him, wanted it so badly. She wanted to believe that race was not an issue, that he and Vee were not bound at the hip. But Sean never took the initiative. She was there with the alliance necklace and feeling wishy-washy, and all he had to do was flirt a little, charm a little, work a little, and she would have given it to him.

But he didn't. Instead he openly aired his grievances and tried to convince Kathy he was trustworthy, but it was too loud and too late. Either way Kathy voted, she was in a bind: faced with two obvious tight alliances that would toss her aside as soon as they had their way with her. And Kathy knew this. Sure she could have kept Sean around to be the fall guy, but that would mean she would have to win immunity when it came down to choosing the final two. Not a good thing to bank on.

And she was there, looking at the jury. John, Tammy, and Robert have issues with Sean. If she put Pappy and Neleh on the jury, sparing Sean, the jury would blame her for letting Sean in the final two. If she put Vee on the jury she would have to go against Pappy and Neleh, who have fewer enemies than she does.

So although Sean may seem like the worst idea for a boot right now, Kathy sacrificed him in hopes the jury would remember her loyalty to the original Rotu.

But should she have?

No.

Sean is still a perfect guy to go against in the final two. He might be the only one she could win against. And, as in politics, no matter how bad the Democratic Governor might be, he is better than the alternative Republican to lifelong Dems – and vice versa. No matter how pissed the Jury might be for Kathy bringing Sean to the final two, they would still vote her over him. And so Sean should have stayed.

Who then should have gotten the boot instead?

Vee.

Getting Rid of Vee and then flipping over to Sean and getting rid of Pappy and Neleh could have worked, unless the tie-breaker decision happens to come down to asking the jury. Then a two-two tie would happen and if the jury were forced to chose between Neleh and Sean, Sean would have to go. But we don't know what happens in a tie, yet.

Still, if Kathy wanted to win she needed to bring Sean with her.

I know there are still huge Neleh fans out there, but I would have to pick Pappy as being more deserving than her and Kathy as more deserving of anyone else. So here is hoping that the ultimate underdog, who has had her head on the chopping black more than once, can beat the popular cutie and the judge. Kathy, I hope you win and keep it all to yourself. Do not give a penny to Patrick. You worked hard for the money and if you get it, I hope you take a couple years off and come have coffee with me in your travels. Don't like coffee? How about green tea?
