Road Rules 11, Episode 3: Road Rollsby Jen Shrader -- 07/10/2002
View Printable version of this article The third Road Rules episode of the eleventh season started out with a disclaimer saying that the stunts that were going to be seen were dangerous and were supervised by professional stuntmen and paramedics. That's interesting.... Granted, rolling a car over is dangerous but how is it moreso than the endless skydiving, bungee jumping, wirewalking, windwalking, and other missions our previous Road Rulers have attempted? Maybe Bunim-Murray's insurance carrier finally woke up. Anyway, like any episode, before we get to the actual mission, we have to tackle this week's personal dramas. Sarah watches again as the rest of our gang has a group workout. She marvels over the physical abilities of Rachel. "Her arms are like biceps," she says. "She could beat me up." Sarah says she's the most different person on the trip. The next piece of drama is Rachel, who calls her girlfriend back home. They've decided to break up while she's on the trip because Rachel needs to experience other people and other things. Rachel says her mother still has issues with her bisexual daughter and that she herself still dreams about men. "We're just two straight girls who fell in love," she says of her relationship. The group finds out they're going to Clemson University for their next mission, but like all good college students, before they tackle their task, they decide TO GO CLUBBING! There we revisit the Kendal and Eric drama from last week. Sarah says Kendal plays games and tries not to show how jealous she gets. Kendal continues to act like her relationship with Eric is no big deal but you can tell it means a lot to her. Then we tackle this week's new couple, Darrell and Rachel. Rachel says Darrell is very emotional and actually admits to him as the Winnie rolls down the highway that she noticed his attractiveness. Are ya taking notes, Kendal? Just come out with it! It's so much easier. No, she can't be taking notes because she's sitting on Eric's lap in the passenger seat. :::sigh::: The group finally arrives for their mission. They are given suits to try on and first they think they're going skydiving, but then the fire retardant material gives it away. They are racing cars. Actually, they're crashing cars. The objective of this mission is to drive the car up on the ramp and collectively roll it three times. If they win, they get $6,000. If they lose, they either lose their prizes (six scooters to date) or someone goes home. Stunt driver Brent assures the group that the cars are foolproof and they only need to be going 27 mph to get it to roll. They don't get to practice. "I'm going to be the first to go down in a fiery death," Sarah says. Way to go kid, that confidence is going to get you far on this trip, and in life. Rachel goes first and fails to get the car to roll. Shane worries after she fails saying she's the girl the group counts on the most and the other girls may lose confidence if they see she can't do it. Kendal goes next and doesn't make it. Darrell is after her and gets a three--quarter turn. All the paramedics go running up to him shouting "Are you OK?" He says "I'm kinda pissed." Bet they don't come up on that every day. Eric gets a half-turn and Shane gets a full turn. So for those of you keeping score at home, that means Sarah needs a three-quarter turn for the group to win. To add to the situation, she and the rest of the group already are assuming SHE will be the one voted off. "It's a lot of pressure in order to save the group and yourself," Kendal says of Sarah. I'm sorry, has there been a vote yet? And for that matter, I didn't see Kendal make a turn in the car. OK, I'm done venting. Living up to her fears, however, Sarah doesn't make the turn, panicking and hitting the brakes instead. Now the group has to decide... keep Sarah or the prizes? In a change from her former attitude, Sarah says she wants to stay and be part of the experience and the group. But she says her traveling mates are fickle and will probably vote to keep the prizes. So far, all the group has won is a set of scooters. The group votes – to Sarah's obvious surprise – unanimously to give up the prizes and keep their group together. "I'll give up the Barbie scooters," Darrell says. Such an appreciative group, hee. Shane says it's not Sarah's fault they lost. Rachel immediately says that if the group loses another one things are going to have to change. Change how, we don't know. She didn't elaborate. Sarah says the group voted to keep her because they felt sorry for her. Hey girlfriend, granted they didn't have a lot of prizes on the line but it was a nice gesture. You aren't being sent home to your overbearing parents, so be happy. Our Road Rulers hit the showers in the RV park and the other five get a good look at Rachel's breasts. This brings us back to the Rachel/Darrell drama. Rachel says she doesn't think about him during the day but she likes him at night when it's time to cuddle. Don't we all? She says at night she says, "What do you want, master?" Whoah. Kendal, who is such a relationship expert (sarcasm inserted) says she doesn't get Rachel and Darrell's relationship. She and Rachel discuss their situations and Kendal says Eric is corny and the relationship crept up on her. Kinda like hives, huh, Kendal? Next week: The group is at the Citadel. (Remember, that place that wouldn't take women until they were sued?) Someone says Shane is the most likely to get in trouble this mission and Sarah falls while running to the quad, doing "something" to her knee. Jennifer Shrader is a reporter at a community newspaper in rural North Carolina who is waiting to be discovered.
