Big Brother 3, August 14: Ch-Ch-Ch-Chia!

by C. Brian Devinney -- 08/15/2002
The battle is on! Chiara thinks she is fooling everyone, but in reality she is fooling nobody. Does this mean the house will turn on her and Roddy? How does the veto play in all of this? It's an action-packed episode as Josh lashes out and scores major points.

Sigh. I hate recaps. I really do. Not writing them, but watching them on Big Brother 3. I've already had this rant before but needless to say, CBS doesn't like me or doesn't listen to me because, once again, they have insisted that they are going to give us a recap of Ch-Ch-Ch-Chia (why call her The Whore when Ch-Ch-Ch-Chia Pet is so much more fun?) nominating Josh and Roddy. Do they really need to have this much filler?

We pick up where we last left off with Josh packing up his belongings and preparing to walk out of the house. Josh says that she has the support of the entire house and that she is a "manipulative bitch." Well, we know she's a bitch. I don't think Ch-Ch-Ch-Chia is as manipulative as you would like to think she is. However, ChiaPet says she is a diabolical bitch (not a manipulative one mind you) and that she is not afraid to put the closest person in her life in the house against him.

Lisa is just glad that the whole issue about what Josh overheard her say is now out in the open. So she goes up to Josh to talk about it and Josh tells Lisa that ChiaPet voted against her and lied to her face about it. She's the bad one in the house, he insists. She is Catwoman and he is Batman. How can she be trusted when she has lied to Lisa who everyone thought was her best friend in the house? ChiaPet voted against Lisa because Roddy told her to and she did it. Lisa doesn't seem to be buying it at all and tells Josh not to "play with darkness."

Reality Check Number One: Lisa, Josh not only plays with darkness but he owns it. He is darkness. He is light. You need him right now more than you can admit. More on this from me later.

Lisa now goes to talk to Danielle about ChiaPet. Apparently Ch-Ch-Ch-Chia is concerned that Roddy is going to be leaving the house and this is ticking off Lisa in a major way, and who can blame her really? Lisa is just pissed that Ch-Ch-Ch-Chia is worried about her man leaving and the supposed "suffering" that she is going to have to endure this week worrying about her man that she WILLINGLY put up for nomination this week while Lisa, who just had her man walk out the door under some pretty strained circumstances (a tie vote nonetheless), isn't allowed to grieve for a moment.

Danielle, we then learn, has promised ChiaPet that she will not vote out Roddy this week. However, if people are trying to call her bluff, she says, it's best that we let them just think that they have the power when they really don't. Danielle already has some plans to get Ch-Ch-Ch-Chia out of the house but it is, as she says, "All in due time." You have to keep your mouth shut and your eyes open if you want to win this game. Hmmm, sounds like the recipe for winning The Mole to me.

Josh now confronts Roddy in the kitchen about how not only how he knew that he was going on the chopping block this week but that he has already gone out and courted the vote as if he was running for political office which, ultimately, will send Josh out the door. Roddy tells him that yeah he knew that he was going up but only because ChiaPet asked him what he would do if she nominated Josh for eviction. He said he was going to hold true to his word and keep Josh in the house. Therefore, Ch-Ch-Ch-Chia said that he had to go on the block for the week.

What these two don't know is that Danielle and Lisa can hear everything that is going on. While they were busy discussing ChiaPet and her nominations, this conversation takes place and explodes into meteoric proportions when Josh confronts Roddy with his knowledge that Roddy was working to boot Lisa from the house by getting ChiaPet to vote for Lisa's execution. Lisa now wants to run out and get in on this, but she stops at the door to listen in.

ChiaPet is now into the mix and she says that her vote was all her own choice. Josh keeps pushing the fact that ChiaPet told Josh that she couldn't be trusted anymore. So Lisa now leaves the Map Room and heads out into the fray. What Ch-Ch-Ch-Chia pet doesn't know is that Lisa knows the truth and she has known for quite some time. She just thought that Lisa was learning all of this for the first time and that she could still be easily swayed.

The entire thing hinges on the post-veto conversation that Josh and with ChiaPet about Lisa not liking her and supposedly about how Lisa could not be trusted. Lisa tells Josh that he is all wrong about it because she told the Whore (sorry I couldn't resist calling her that one more time) that if she was in her position that she wouldn't use the veto either. She says Josh is just spinning his wheels and that she has her mouth shut and eyes open and she knows a helluva lot more about what is going on in the house than Josh does. It's really not clear on how all of this started but some people believe that it really started with Roddy saying that Lisa couldn't be trusted and somehow it made it over to ChiaPet's mouth and no one really knows what happened. Then The Whore turned around and said to Danielle that Lisa was after her and she couldn't be trusted. It's a big mess and I think we will never full know what happened. It's a big ball of wrong.

Reality Check Number 2: Lisa, be careful about those hand gestures because although you keep your eyes open and mouth shut, but body language speaks tons. If you don't want people to know that you are aligned with Danielle then you need to watch what you say, how you say it, and what you do when you say it.
