Big Brother 3, August 24: Jason's Big Decision

by David Bloomberg -- 08/24/2002
Jason has to decide who he should nominate. Will he listen to Danielle, Lisa, and Marcellas? Will he got with strategy? Or will he listen to Roddy, who plays the "you're my best friend" card?

This episode begins with the reactions of the remaining houseguests to Chiara's ouster on Thursday. Amy says she feels like a home-wrecker, but it's a game, and the game is not Love Connection! She further says she feels like she's the wicked witch of the South, and she's miserable. She has to pretend that she cares because the others are upset, but she doesn't. It's a game, not death. "She'll see her little boyfriend again in a couple weeks."

Lisa says it killed her when Chiara asked, as she was leaving, why Lisa hadn't voted against Roddy instead. But later she says she has mixed emotions, because Chiara had really hurt her earlier. But she thinks the game might be turning her into a bad person. She listened to Danielle instead of herself.

As for Danielle, she will miss Chiara a lot. She feels like crap. And what makes it worse is that she had Roddy by the balls and could have changed the vote, but she had compassion for Amy. It's nothing personal, just doing business - she did what she had to do, even though she didn't like it.

Roddy says the moment he saw Chiara leave, it really hit him. Also, she left behind her security blanket from childhood for him, which he says showed a lot in just one gesture.

Danielle ends the segment with a slight change from her usual quote, saying, "four down and one friend, five to go."

We start the next segment also with Danielle, who is quite happy that Jason won HoH. Roddy also feels pretty good, as he thinks Jason has other fish to fry. Um… like who? Jason, however, says that the only person who should feel 100% safe is Danielle. Speaking of her, she comes to visit him and talks to him about who might go against their team. Jason says she has been extremely diligent in protecting him, so he has to do the same. If he has to do some dirty work, that's okay.

The next segment is about how their large dining room table has been replaced with a small one. Ooooh.

Then we hear from various people how Danielle makes them laugh. Since I can't do impressions through my keyboard, you aren't going to get a whole lot of out my trying to explain it, so we'll just skip ahead.

Next up are a number of shots of Jason stuttering and stammering. He says when he gets nervous, he stutters a bit, plays with his hands, runs his fingers through his hair, etc. It's a dead giveaway. But he figures as long as the others don't know exactly what he's fidgeting about, he's okay.

We move on now to what might as well be a rerun - drunken Amy.

Amy says she's heard there is nothing more unattractive than a drunk woman. To this she says, "too bad." Gerry says her drunken selfishness still rears its head as she tries to beg his beer off of him. Danielle notes that Amy likes wine and beer and anything else with alcohol. As Gerry says to Danielle, the old Amy came back. Besides begging Gerry, we see Amy begging around for other beer, including "jokingly" offering to buy Marcellas' beer. Marcellas wonders privately if she learned anything from the first time she was here. He is trying to stop her from looking back because she's coming off like a little lush. He wonders if maybe it's not such a good thing for him that she came back again. Eventually, he takes her aside to talk about it (apparently not for the first time) and says she has to avoid the appearance of impropriety. She just doesn't get it and blames the others for not understanding that she's joking. Yeah, joking. That's it. I think it's more likely that the anonymous writer had it correct in this article about Amy's drinking.

But Amy isn't the only annoying one in the house. Gerry is once again (or still) annoying Marcellas. At one point, he sits on Marcellas' pillow while picking his feet. Ick. OK, even though I might not be as easily-annoyed as Marcellas, I still wouldn't like that one. But that's not all. Marcellas seems to think that Gerry is, well, interested in him. He says Gerry stares at him constantly and even looks at him in the shower. Marcellas says he's accustomed to being stared at and knows when somebody is appraising him. For his part, Gerry says he is comfortable being around Marcellas because he's comfortable with his own sexuality. But he wonders if maybe Marcellas is a little uncomfortable having an overtly straight man as a friend. Frankly, I think they're both nuts.

Speaking of nuts, it's time for the food competition (yeah, I know, lame segue). The backyard has been fitted with seven stations. At each of them, one player stands and is in charge of getting oversized donuts from place to place. Each donut has to make it through all the stations without falling. If they get 16 donuts from beginning to end, they get all their food for the week. If not, their food is cut. Plus there is one mystery donut that gives them a special surprise.
