Big Brother 3, September 14: Expect the Expected

by David Bloomberg -- 09/15/2002
Everybody knows what to expect from Danielle's nominations, and for a change, that's exactly what we get. It's getting down to the end here, though. Who will make it into the final three - and final two? Will Lisa's vote against Amy instead of Marcellas come back to haunt her? And why do the houseguests look like Spongebob Squarepants?

After the usual bout of recaps and then more recaps, we are brought up to the point where Marcellas left on Thursday. Danielle notes that he had three choices - he could have saved himself, he could have saved Amy, or he could have done nothing. When he chose to do nothing, a moment of sadness came over her because she knew how it would play out (as did everybody watching). She was wondering why he didn't save himself.

Amy said it was a big decision and a brave decision. No, Amy, it was a stupid decision (and it earned him a spot as the first person to be inducted into the Reality TV Hall of Shame within mere hours of leaving a show). Jason says he was shocked. But not as much as Marcellas was, as Danielle describes the look on his face as just that - shock. She says it was ugly but they had to do it. Amy notes that Marcellas was not even remotely thinking that he would go. Yes, we know. Like I said, stupid. Of course, Marcellas has also said in a post-eviction interview with Entertainment Weekly that he thinks he could have beaten anybody in the finals and, "I think I was the most popular person in the house." Yeesh. Not just stupid, but still delusional, as well.

Danielle says Marcellas is her friend, but he was also her competitor. When you get this far into the game you have to stab friends in the back and lie to them - a lot of people played with honesty and a lot of people left because of it. Well said, Danielle.

Lisa, for her part, was fairly confident that they were going to vote to evict Amy - so she was a bit surprised at the tie. Apparently she and Danielle never had a specific discussion on what the strategy would be if Marcellas was dumb enough to not use the Golden Veto. Lisa says it's very suspicious, and it leaves a bad taste in her mouth.

Moving on to the results of the Head of Household (HoH) competition, Jason says he would have been in a very bad spot if Amy had won. Amy confirms this by saying if she were Danielle, she would nominate Jason because he's her biggest threat. Lisa says she doesn't feel safe at all, though she can't put her finger on why. Danielle is thrilled about her first HoH win - and even more so by her gift basket, which includes a pink robe (good thing fashion critic Marcellas isn't there to see that) and a Bon Jovi's Greatest Hits CD. (And indeed, everybody in the house is "Living on a Prayer" - and some of them are "Wanted Dead or Alive.") But the best thing in the basket is a picture drawn by her kids of a big house with a porch - something that has been her dream. Awwww.

Getting back to the power struggles, Danielle recognizes that Amy is upset because Marcellas left, so she sits her down to explain that she was the one who voted to evict Marcellas, and it was because of trust issues. Danielle goes over the whole thing with Marcellas passing along information to Roddy, and possibly to Chiara as well. She doesn't say it, but Danielle also thinks Amy had done some information-passing as well, so I guess this is intended to be a sort of message to her. Though at this point, with only four of them left, I don't think there is much point in sending such a message, but okay. Amy says Danielle's word to her is gold. Heh, you just go right on believing that. Danielle is only concerned about one thing - getting herself and Jason into the final two, and Amy and Lisa are the only ones standing in the way of that right now.

Lisa still isn't feeling too comfortable with the fact that nobody told her the vote was supposed to go against Marcellas in the event he wouldn't use the Golden Veto. She tells Jason that she wishes she'd known about it so she could have voted against Marcellas and saved Jason having to case a tie-breaker. Jason says he doesn't think Danielle had time to talk to Lisa about it (geez - they're in the house together 24/7, they have nothing but time!). Lisa doesn't buy it, saying she was around Danielle and Danielle held back. Lisa feels like she was set up somehow. She also didn't like the fact that Jason asked her, just before the HoH competition, who she voted for. It just didn't sit right with her. Maybe she's paranoid.
