Big Brother 3: Why Marcellas Lost

Wow. Where do I begin with this one? Marcellas was so certain that he wouldn't be evicted that he didn't even bother to fully pack. He was so certain that even though he could have taken himself off the nomination block, he didn't. Yes, he was that certain he would stay in the house - and he was wrong. But why? Why did Marcellas lose?

Well, let's start with the obvious. Marcellas lost because he was stupid, or egotistical, or delusional, or some combination of all of the above. This site has featured a previous article looking at his mental state. We have already inducted him into the Reality TV Hall of Shame -- not just for losing in such a ridiculous manner, but also for all of his behavior over the course of the show. And his antics have been mentioned numerous times in recaps along the way.

He thought he was the king of the show. Even after he left, he told an interviewer that he was the most well-liked person in the house and would have beaten anybody. He thought he was the star. He also thought he was honest and loyal. Let's face it, none of these things are true. But did they contribute to his downfall?

Yes.

Jason and Danielle had promised both Marcellas and Lisa that they would go to the final three together. Danielle had further promised Marcellas that she would take him to the final two, although she had a deal with Jason for the same thing. Obviously, the numbers don't all add up. So Danielle had some decisions to make. She has made it clear that she will not be abandoning Jason, so we know Marcellas was not going to come to the final two with her. That still leaves the question of the final three - and, indeed, the final four.

Danielle felt that Marcellas had betrayed her. For all his talk of honesty and loyalty, he had given away her plans to Roddy, and had also made a deal with Roddy to go to the final two (though Marcellas still denies it and makes excuses about it). So if you're going to take somebody with you to the finals, it might as well be somebody you can trust a bit more - not that you can fully trust anybody in a game like this.

Also, in the finals - should she not make it with Jason - Amy should be easier to beat than Marcellas. It would probably be a toss-up, as Marcellas pissed of plenty of people on his own while many of the others harbor resentment towards Amy for coming back into the game. But Marcellas has also won HoH twice while Amy only won it the one time it was handed to her on a platter - which makes him more of a threat down the homestretch.

All of these things certainly played into the decision of both Danielle and Jason when they cast their votes. But they all could have been avoided - at least for one more week - if Marcellas had simply used the Golden Veto on himself. So what does it all come back to? Marcellas was stupid, egotistical, and delusional. That is why he lost.
