Big Brother 3: Lisa's Victory Almost Assured

by Susan Schechter -- 09/22/2002
It seems that Lisa has just made herself a half million dollars richer. It's all over but the vote counting at this point. Still, you never do really know what will happen on live TV…

Well, no surprise regarding the end of the show. It's all over but the crying now. Lisa is the last HoH of BB3 and, as much as she hated to do it, knew the only way to win the half million is to put herself up against Danielle. Jason had to go. Jason doesn't seem surprised, he walked out in grace and style, as he carried himself in the house the entire season.

What is riveting is what is happening on the live feeds. Danielle, like Shannon in last year's house, has had a huge epiphany on what is going down in the house - or rather, outside the house. She has just told Lisa she isn't going to win, but place, as they say in horse racing.

Now in all honesty, I would have been happy with any of the last three people winning the grand prize. I liked Jason, and admired him in the way he conducted himself both in the house and outside. To me he was like Cassandra from the first series, never placing himself in a compromising position, and always acting like he knew his mother and father were watching him on the live feeds. And despite any ribbing I may get from fellow writers or anyone reading this article, I admire him for holding on to his virginity until he gets married. He is going to make some lucky girl a great husband and friend.

But Lisa must have done the math in her head and realized that she needed to evict the last houseguest with her head, not her heart. If she had been voting with her heart, she would have kept Jason. But she was voting strategically, she ran the numbers. She knew that if push came to shove, if she took Jason, she would probably lose a vote like Lori or perhaps Tonya. If she took Danielle to the final two, these two ladies would more likely vote for Lisa since they both had altercations with her. She knew she carried Eric, and probably Roddy as well. But even if she didn't know this, and I am just speculating because we don't know how the houseguests will actually vote - other than Eric, one would expect. Heck, last year who could have guessed that Kent would vote for Will to win?!

But if Lisa went up against likeable, sweet Jason from Alabama, she could easily lose. Anyone who has seen Survivor or Big Brother in the past knows you stand a better chance of winning if you are up against someone people think is worse than you. Even Amy yesterday in an interview with a Memphis paper said she wouldn't vote for Danielle, she would vote for Jason. (Who she'll vote for now that Jason is gone is anyone's guess.) When I run the numbers on how the vote will go, I predict a vote with Lisa winning 6-4. But again, that's only speculation. And because it is live, even CBS or Julie Chen doesn't know in advance. Heck, considering the way Marcellas changed his mind on using the Golden Veto at the last minute, even some of the houseguests themselves might not know which way they will be voting! Plus there is the additional possibility that the two finalists will be offered a chance to block a vote, as they did last year. In that case, Lisa will almost certainly block Jason and Danielle will do the same to Eric. And who knows what will happen if they ask Florida voters to help out!

As I said, nothing is etched in stone. As of Sunday, the evicted houseguests will be sequestered so they cannot talk among themselves on who they will vote for on Wednesday's live show. Anything can happen. The most likely scenario is Lisa will win - but you never know. That said, I think it's fairly obvious that Lisa just made herself half a million dollars richer by putting herself with Danielle.

All I can say is good luck to both ladies. They each played an awesome game, just like Jason. In my mind, all three of them are winners, no matter what the outcome will be on Wednesday.
