'Murder in Small Town X' Winner and September 11 Hero Angel Juarbe to Have Street Named After Him

Even if you didn't know somebody who was killed in the September 11 attacks, if you watched reality TV -- Murder in Small Town X in particular -- you may have felt like you lost somebody you knew. The show's winner, Angel Juarbe, was killed while performing his firefighter duties. Now his name is one of 81 that will be placed on New York streets to honor the heroes of that day.
Friday, September 27, a rainy overcast day in the Big Apple. Mayor Mike Bloomberg (no relation to RNO's editor) signs a bill into law. But this law is special. 81 streets will be named after 81 heroes who died on September 11, 2001.
Said Mayor Mike at the public hearing, "The Bill before me today, Introductory Number 252-A, will rename various public thoroughfares and public places throughout the City after 81 firefighters, police officers, and civilians who died on September 11, 2001." He continued, "While no actions that we may take can ever adequately convey the appreciation that the entire City has for these heroes, erecting these signs throughout the five boroughs [Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island] will at least express the City's desire to permanently remember their sacrifices and to rebuild our City in their memory. Without the courage and sacrifice of those firefighters, police officers and civilians who bravely gave their lives to rescue others, many more lives would have certainly been lost. Our actions today will show the world that our City and its people will never forget those who were lost on that terrible day."
And thus with this somber statement read, the Mayor started to read the names. By this point you may be wondering why we are writing about this issue on a reality television website. Well, one of the names on the list was that of Angel Luis Juarbe, Jr., the winner of Fox's Murder in A Small Town X. As reported last year on RealityNewsOnline, Angel was killed when he exhibited courage and heroism beyond the call of duty during the World Trade Center attacks. He was first reported missing on the day of the attacks, and confirmation of that fear arrived quickly. His body was not found until late November, which confirmed the mourning by his family, friends, and viewers of the show who may not have otherwise known someone who died that day, but felt touched by the tragedy as well.
Angel, of course, is only one of those who are named in this list. All 81 are reproduced below, and were taken from the official press release issued by the Mayor's Office with new street names and boroughs.

Angel Juarbe was known to so many of us only in his role on Murder in Small Town X. While on that show, he talked several times about courage - he was discussing courage in the face of a make-believe murderer. That particular courage earned him a prize of $250,000 plus a car - neither of which he actually had a chance to enjoy. But when it really counted, he proved that same courage in the face of all-too-real murderers. For that, he lost his life, but he may have saved countless others.
Heroes all. May we never forget.
