Besides The Amazing Race, Big Brother is my other favorite reality television show. When Big Brother 3 ended in September, I found myself not being able to let it go. I would constantly think about what would have happened had someone used the power of veto, what if certain people had stayed true to one of the several alliances they had made, and what would have happened had Amy not been voted back into the house? I finally realized what made me like this season of the show so much more than the other two. It was Amy. Every time I saw this girl smile I would get that feeling like when I was in fifth grade and the girl I had a “secret crush” on would look at me. To me, Amy made this show, and now I’m missing Amy.

I have to admit, when the show first started, I was not really that big of an Amy fan. However, right after her first nomination, I was hooked. It seemed to me that Amy was not willing to compromise herself for the safety of staying another week in that house, and just wanted to be herself and have a good time. That is what the show is about; learning about yourself, and using that knowledge to grow as a person. Amy showed us this. When Amy was voted out of the house the first time, she left with the dignity that she had entered with. For all the times that she was trashed by Marcellas, she still wanted to remain friends with him when they were both out of the house.

There were no words to express how happy I was when Amy was voted back into the house. When she left, there was something missing, and I realized that it was Amy’s smile. This girl was able to light up the room with her smile, and it seemed that nobody else in that house could come close to having the personality she had. Some people have decided that instead of praising Amy for staying true to herself, it would be easier just to start rumors, and talk nasty about her. Amy made her mistakes, but none to the point where making up lies about her was necessary. I actually found it humorous that the only way some people can get their point across is to accuse others that they don’t know of alcoholism and split personalities, especially because these are not terms that should be thrown around so lightly.

Amy was nominated every week for eviction excluding the time she won HoH when she had re-entered the house. I am willing to bet my life that no other houseguest would have been able to handle it the way that she had. Marcellas would have had one of his famous fits, Danielle would have broken down from actually being nominated, and Roddy would probably contemplate how it was everyone’s fault except his own. Not only did Amy hold her head high, she was able to joke about it, and have a good time with it. She struggled with it once or twice – something like that is eventually going to get to you – but Amy was able to work though it and pull herself together. She had gotten further than many people had expected. Who does she owe this too? Some say Danielle for pulling the strings and keeping her there. Others say Marcellas because he rallied in the beginning for her. I don’t agree at all. Amy stayed in that house because of one person, Amy. She stayed true to what she believed, compromised for nobody, and did her best to be a friend to everyone. She was a light in the house that was so full of darkness.

What is the point to all of this? Well, that is simple. It’s that I miss Amy. I miss seeing Amy smile, and I miss seeing her act goofy. She had some of the funniest one-liners in that house, and I just miss seeing her bubbling personality. Hopefully, she will be able to capitalize on her success, and go places. Regardless, I think this girl has the world going for her, and opportunities will arise. I would love to do an interview with her someday. She is an example to people that are picked on and slandered. Amy showed that keeping your head held high and a positive attitude will upset people more and show what a mature person you are. Dignity is a virtue that is hard to pull off sometimes, but Amy did it nicely.
