Life After Big Brother for Roddyby Paris Cosby -- 10/23/2002
View Printable version of this article A Chinese food emergency - that's what he's having on a Saturday night. Have you ever wondered what life is like after Big Brother? For one contestant, Roddy Mancuso, life has been a little hectic. Not everyone adores the show and the people that compete. After visiting a few internet websites, he said, "I've read some bad stuff, but I've also read some amazing things. But, it is hard to ignore the bad. The reaction from most people has been amazing, just the negative people seem to make a lot of noise." So what exactly does come after Big Brother - besides some negative press? Well, Roddy has had an opportunity he says he would never have passed up. He said, "I've had a chance to get in touch with terminally ill children (who liked me on the show), and even tomorrow, I'm going to a children's ward to see some sick little guys. It really is the best thing I've ever had a chance to do in my life. A few months ago I could not have done this, so a few dopes on the internet seems like a small price to pay." So, what's next for Roddy? While he's busy enjoying his Big Brother fame, he's been working on his own career as a screen writer: "I have a movie in development that I wrote and am going to act in it. It looks to start shooting in the late winter in Philly and Bucks County, PA. I had it picked up just a month before the show." He is also planning a few trips up to the arctic circle to view the Northern Lights and the annual Leonid Meteor shower. Now, that sounds like my kinda guy! Roddy did have one piece of advice for me. After telling him a story of a fisherman I met on the pier in Port Dalhousie who swore to me he caught a three-eyed fish, he said, "Whomever told you the three-eyed fish story has watched The Simpsons too much." I guess I shouldn't believe everything I hear. Thanks, Roddy! I don't watch The Simpsons. And, for all you avid Roddy fans who want to buy him a beer one day, his favorite Molson product is XXX! You can most likely find him hanging around in any hockey arena. He "might go to Vancouver this weekend to catch a game." If you're a Canucks fan, keep your eyes out for him this weekend. A few other Roddy tidbits for you... His favorite hockey player is Eric Lindros. That's my favorite hockey player too! We like him for different reasons though. I respect the way he plays (plus he's gorgeous!) but get a bit cynical about him falling down a lot; Roddy says, "Are you kidding? The man is a God! I'm scared of him when I'm in bed in L.A.!" He also told me that he woke the houseguests up on occasion by singing the Canadian National Anthem. I'm guessing he learned that from all those hockey games. That's how I learned the American one. I grow to like Roddy more each time I talk to him! He's funny, likes hockey, likes astronomy, and saved me from going through life believing the man with the three-eyed fish story. And don't forget, he also likes Chinese food. Anyone having an emergency Chinese food attack at 10 p.m. on a Saturday night with Eric Lindros as his favorite hockey player is alright in my book. Even though his Big Brother persona was portrayed as a rather manipulative, negative, devilish kinda guy, I think the power and charisma he displayed in the house will serve him well in life. I'm sure he will find success in everything he does. All the best to you Roddy and let me know when that movie comes out!
