Making the Band 2, Season Finale: Meet The Band!

by Sting7 -- 12/24/2002
The time has come for Bad Boy's latest act to be unveiled! What effect will Chopper's juvenile behavior, Mina's ball-dropping, the return of Babs (and yet another previously dismissed contestant), and Mysterious' (at right) secret desire for a solo career, have on the final result?

Last Episode: Babs returned, Chopper and Miami locked horns, Diddy put the rappers through a rap-off that shook up Mina.

There are just 5 days until P Diddy announces who he has selected to be in his new group. Diddy says the world of hip hop is unpredictable, and he thinks it's time to toss another curve ball. Haven't they been through enough?

Diddy's idea is to split the remaining eleven finalists into two groups. He basically gives them half an hour to write a song.

Mysterious tells Chopper that her personality is aggressive, people have to get used to her. Chopper tells Mysterious that it's not about her, this is a group you know. To the camera, Chopper says he doesn't think Mysterious is cut out for a group. Insert old pot cliché here.

On the phone, Mysterious asks her producer, D Moet, if he thinks she has an aggressive personality. "It can be," he offers, like a husband who is tired of ducking from flying china. Mysterious says that's just how she is, take it or leave it. That is the completely wrong attitude.

To the camera, Mysterious confesses that she's hoping Diddy will tell her that he wants to work with her a solo artist. Frankly, I think her style is so unique and individual, that she will need her own brand. A band wouldn't work for her. Believe me when I tell you, Diddy didn't ask me.

His Highness says his court has heard some rumblings about Mysterious that have troubled him. He goes to the house and calls Mysterious in for a little conference. "Let's not waste each other's time!" Do you want to be in a band or what? Mysterious looks like she is surprised by the question.

Her answer: "If the door that's open is for me to be in a band, than I'll be in a group." Oh no. You don't give HRH a political answer! He presses her, he doesn't want to hear about doors. He wants a yes or no. She nods. It was unconvincing.

Lloyd, who is now being referred to as "Ness," as in Elliot Ness from the Untouchables, has been given a decree by King Diddy to perform for his amusement. Diddy has arranged a "battle" for Ness. For those of you who haven't seen 8 Mile, a battle is two rappers rapping about each other, usually about how weak the other's skills are, some personal digs, comedic but devastating.

Diddy says that the rappers at Bad Boy have been known to challenge each other, and he wants to make sure that his new group is prepared and can handle themselves. Ness is quite confident of his abilities.

Ness' opponent is one Jae Mills, who Diddy refers to as a street legend with impeccable skills. They are given three rounds. Diddy says Jae wins the first round, and it's an unpopular decision (I say Ness won), so HRH pulls the throne on us. What he says goes. Alright, already!

Round two, Ness clearly defeats Jae, and Diddy agrees. Round three, Diddy calls a draw in a purely political, pro-wrestling move. Jae Mills is certainly talented, but Sting7 calls it a TKO for Ness, and anyone with ears could see that. What? To prove my point, Diddy prattles on to the camera that Jae is going to be a star blahblahblah, but so is Ness.

Diddy calls for two more rounds that aren't televised, but we've seen enough anyway.

Alison, Tracey, and Diddy make a conference call to Dylan who had a matter of the law to deal with. Dylan says he was charged with second degree assault. Diddy asks for the status, and apparently the letter Diddy wrote had the desired effect on Dylan's judge. He's given another chance in society, and with Bad Boy! Diddy says he's moving back into the house! They tell Dylan that Babs has already returned and she has gone "butt-noodles." I think that is a good thing.

Diddy pays an unscheduled visit to the house. Mysterious asks him what his vision is for the group. HRH declines to answer, but gives her some cryptic feedback, "You may be hot, but you may be better as a solo person." Mysterious gulps. Diddy adds that not being chosen will have nothing to do with talent. He is convinced that the 11 remaining are talented enough to be in the group, but some won't be chosen because they chat too much when they should be listening. Others won't be chosen because of their attitudes. (At this point, we get a direct shot of Chopper, looking oblivious.)

Dylan returns to the house, and is greeted warmly by the other men in the house.

Diddy has the finalists come to the studio to lay down their tracks on the songs they have to write in thirty minutes. We get definite insight on how Diddy feels about them.
