'Survivor: The Amazon' Contestant Daniel Lue Previously Interviewed by RealityNewsOnlineby David Bloomberg -- 01/11/2003
View Printable version of this article The Survivor: The Amazon cast will be announced on the CBS morning show on Monday, January 13. But the names and photos are already available at this CBS News page (you can also find out more about each of them on SurvivorFever). In perusing these names and photos, RealityNewsOnline has discovered that one of the contestants, Daniel Lue, is the same Daniel Lue who had tried out for the first WWE Tough Enough and made it into the semi-final 25, and who was subsequently interviewed in depth by Mike DeGeorge. You can click here to find that interview. It is interesting to note that Daniel specifically said in that interview that he is a "huge fan of reality television," not just wrestling. He specifically listed Survivor as one of the shows he watched. I suppose it is possible that this is all a coincidence, or that perhaps this Daniel Lue is a clone created by the Raelians, but that would have to be one hell of a coincidence. All doubt is removed when we compare photos. Below we have two photos of Daniel Lue. The one on the left is from the CBS site. The one on the right shows Daniel Lue from Tough Enough with eventual winner Nidia. There can be no doubt that this is the same person: ![]() So, what do we know about Daniel Lue? Well, he is obviously a wrestling fan. He was born and raised in Houston, Texas, went to Clear Lake High School and then the University of Texas, Austin, where he received a degree in Finance. He returned to Houston to work as a tax accountant for Arthur Anderson. Uh oh. Well, luckily he had already left there and, when Mike DeGeorge interviewed him, he worked for Koch Industries. In the Tough Enough Casting Special, Daniel was shown jumping rope. He told the panel of judges, "I'm a combination of Western Strength and Eastern Philosophy. I'm different. I'm Asian. I'm proud of that. I just want to do my race proud." He expanded on this to Mike DeGeorge, saying, "I said that I am the combination of Western strength and Eastern philosophy. Because I was born and raised in America, so I am an American of Oriental descent. I've learn a lot about Oriental culture and wisdom through my family and through my studies and practices of Asian martial arts. I combine the best the two cultures have to offer." He also added that they had not shown the part where he said, "not all Chinese guys are skinny, nerdy bookworms that wear thick glasses and can't drive straight. I was going to bring honor, respect, and fear back to my people. I gave the judges fair warning to get ready for an Asian Invasion. And they would realize why, there ain't no persuasion like this Asian." When Mike asked Daniel if he were trying out for Tough Enough 2, he said he definitely was and added, "In the ten years of MTV reality shows such as Real World and Road Rules, there has not been an Asian-American guy in the cast. There really isn't anyone on TV that Asian American guys can relate to. I will be that person." Well, Daniel didn't make it to Tough Enough 2, but it appears that he did manage to get on a reality show anyway. It will be interesting, to say the least, to see how others react to a rather muscular Asian-American accountant wrestling fan! Stay tuned to RealityNewsOnline for details as we get 'em!
