Bachelorette's Greg Charged with Drug Possessionby David Bloomberg -- 02/01/2003
View Printable version of this article It's just not Greg Todtman's week. In case you don't recognize him by his last name, Greg Todtman is the "Greg" from The Bachelorette. While he made it longer than most and was in the final four, earlier this week, he was given the boot by Trista. He was an underdog going into that episode, and his small New York apartment didn't do anything to boost his chances. Then he did all the publicity that normally comes with being cut from the final four on such a popular show. He just wanted to go home and rest. His problem, however, came when he decided to rest on an airplane with a pill for which he didn't have a prescription - at least not with him, and possibly not at all. As anybody who has flown since 9/11 knows (or anybody who reads the newspapers, or watches the news, or…), security is a bit stricter now than it used to be. It seems Greg had to go through one of these security checks, and a "controlled substance" was found. On Friday (January 31), he was charged with misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance. The Associated Press says it was cocaine. But ABC says it was just a sleeping pill for which he didn't have a prescription. Greg himself told a reporter that he learned a lesson - to have a prescription and not keep the unlabeled pill with a piece of aluminum foil, which seems to go along with the "sleeping pill" claim. It seems to me that there is a big difference between cocaine and an unlabeled sleeping pill. You'd think it would be pretty easy to get the story straight. At this point, I'm leaning towards Greg's story because it would just be so stupid for him to claim a sleeping pill if it really was cocaine - seeing as the police would test the drug in such a situation. More likely, the AP reporter heard "controlled substance" and that somehow turned into "cocaine" in the rush to get a news story out. Greg was released with a notice to appear in court. Unfortunately for him, he won't have to worry about that appearance interfering with his TV schedule or future time with Trista. This news about Greg may not be as lurid as the revelation that of Joe Millionaire's Sarah being in bondage movies, but the difference is that what he is alleged to have done is illegal while hers was just rather bizarre. And, of course, she's still in the running on her show. Keep an eye on RealityNewsOnline for any updates - for example, if additional information comes out that verifies that it was actually cocaine and not just a sleeping pill.
